Mac OS X has a VPN option in the Network Preferences or Internet Connect dialog window. It is simple to setup and you can have an icon appear on the menu bar to toggle VPN on and off.
I do not know how this particular flavor of VPN compares with all of the others and their clients.
I use it to connect to a client's Filemaker Server on a Windows 2003 server and a Cisco router.
It works with the Treo 700p, wifi at motels and elsewhere.
The Filemaker solution runs a bit slowly over the Treo 700 compared to wifi and definitely Comcast cable.
Wiat, I just ran SpeedTest and am only getting 300 down compared to 1000 down last night so that might be the problem.
Found the problem: I had pressed the Menu button to try another application and got a menu saying Quit the USB. I did. The connection remained active but only at 1/3 the download speed. I have Bluetooth turned on. Wonder if I switched to Bluetooth rather than USB. Now that I have reopened the USB application I am getting the 1000 kbs. |
