Updated my firmware to 134 without any problems but these updates I don't think will help me until EVDO arrives which probably won't be until 2008.

Well after connecting up I connected on Digital Roaming. I disconnected and it was back to Sprints network. Are their charges for Digital Roaming?

After upgrading to this version, my S720 was only showing 1xRTT network. At my home, it has always displayed EVDO. Hmm...

I had to Lock in EVDO on the S720 in order for it to connect at EVDO.

Signal strength is at -87dBm for 1xRTT.

If you put the mouse over the signal strength bars, it will show you the signal strength for both 1xRTT and 1xEVDO, which allows you to see that the card locks into the stronger of the 2 signals.

Strange, when I specify EVDO Only, I get a stronger signal of -75dBm and it locks into EVDO.

I ran the update this evening before leaving the office. I had already updated to 3.06.05 last week, so I uninstalled the previous software, rebooted, and loaded up this new release.

During the update I noticed that it tells you that this is the update that enables Rev A.

Anyway, all went well and after a reboot I tried it out. I didn't notice a huge improvement in speed but I did notice that my upload was consistant around 140Kbps, download around 1100-1200Kbps. Again, nothing earth-shattering for EVDO Rev 0. Then I tried a couple of ping tests and traceroutes to google. A couple hops were as low as 79ms, but the overall majority of hops were in the 120-130ms range. Not bad. This was in Costa Mesa, CA 92626.

I'm waiting for a booster antenna to arrive so I can test at home, in San Diego county. I have pretty sketchy coverage at home but I think I have a better chance of finding a Rev A network. I will also be testing with my Linksys router soon.

One other thing... I've noticed that since the previous (124?) firmware, and continuing with this 134 firmware, I no longer get a signal strength rating in the WRT54G3-ST's management page. It says No Signal yet it connects (or is already connected) just fine.

Actually, those upload and download speeds are quite good for Rev. 0. The vast majority are quite a bit off from your throughput.

I just upgraded my s720 and it seemed to go fine. I rebooted, it said it needed to update the PRL which I did.

Now, while I show the most current versions of the firmware, PRL, and software I can not connect to EVDO even in areas that had 100% full bar coverage before the upgrade.

When I force EVDO only it roams to Verizon and refuses to connect.

WTF????

Same here. I'm not sure if I'm roaming or not on Verizon, but I'mm definately not connecting to EVDO. Customer support over the phone was useless; I'll be trying to go to the store today and get this resolved.

I updated my s620 with the 3.7.5 and it has been a nightmare, constant disconnects, lower signal strength, everytime it disconnects it i would have to reboot my computer because the card looses all its information, no prl, no firmware, no user id, but it would reappear after rebooting. I reloaded 3.6.5 with no issues.

I called Sprint's data card support and spoke /w a very nice person out of OK.

He could not fix the issue but sent it off to a 'fix agent' who will resolve the problem in 36 hours Smile

We will see!

I spoke with some knowledgeable people at Sprint and here is the issue (feature).

The PRL that is included with this update adds "Domestic Roaming". There may be some 1xRTT towers that your card "now sees", that it didn't before. This is exactly what I was seeing. The way around this, is to lock in EVDO and then it was working like it did before.

For those traveling to multiple areas, the latest PRL update should give them much broader coverage than before.

Same here. Where are you located? I'm in the Schaumburg, IL area.

May help when talking to sprint on the phone.
