Nevermind. The Sanyo 8400 and many other Sprint phones don't need separate drivers for content transfers between a cellphone and a computer with a USB cable (but they do for phone-as-modem connections). The drivers are already included with Windows XP. Here are the instructions to connect from page 150 of the 8400 pdf Users' Guide.

To connect your phone to your PC:
1. With the microSD inserted, select Menu>Tools>USB Connection>Mass Storage.
2. Connect your phone to your PC using the provided USB cable. (Wait for the connection to complete. When connected, the host computer will automatically detect your phone.)

To remove the connection:
When you have finished, click on the USB device icon on your computer’s task bar and follow the instructions provided to safely unplug the USB cable. (The process may vary depending on the PC.)

Is this still an issue? Want to make sure all is well before I brick my card.

edit: I use this on a Windows machine. My girlfriend has done the OSX hack to use it on her Powerbook. Is there a work around for the Powerbook issue yet?

Still an issue for PowerBook users. If you upgrade the firmware, the PowerBook S720 hack will no longer work and your card WILL NOT work in your PowerBook.

I still have EVDO connection errors.. EVDO locking hasa a -87dBm signal while my 1xRTT signal is always slightly worse. I get a 'remote computer failed to respond' when i try to connect to EVDO but 1x works fine. Wish I never did the damned update. Is anyone else still having problems?

I'm in the Burlington, NC area

FYI I updated to the latest via the s620 connection manager when it offered a new update about 3 weeks ago. I think it gave me a bit faster perf but since then it locks up almost every day after a few hours of medium bandwidth use.

I think because I'm running a dual core intel in my Dell d620 that the driver is not safe for more than one cpu systems. This is just my opinion as a software designer/developer and observing the symptoms.

My symptoms are:

- periodic signal strength bars disappearing

- periodic signal showing zero bars but still passing data

- locking up after a few hours of use.

device info shows firmware: 160 prl 20224

tnx curt

Has anyone seen rev a in Columbus, Ohio or better LATENCY times. I too experienced dropped connections after 5 minutes of use on the latest auto update and using my s620 on my desktop with a PCMIA slot card(SIIG).

I now have the the s720 and the linksys router. My card showed firmware 125 and the connection manager from disk is 3.06.004, this combination is giving me the same results as my s620 did, which is solid.

I only want to upgrade the card firmware if it won't break me. I am hopping for better latency, I saw someone post 95 to 225 or something. That is pretty darn good. I currently average 250-400 latency. Since I like to play COD online, improvement in latency could be a help.

I used my dell 610 to setup the card, then just stuck in the linksys with the version 125 firmware. So far, no diff then my s620, which is good considering it works well, does not drop me, consistant 1.2meg down and 130kb up.

I should mention they have been expanding the Columbus, Ohio evdo connection range in a big way the last couple of weeks.

Probably recycling the EVDO rev 0 equipment. Smile

I had been plagued with disconnects and the occasional "searching for service" or "plug in your card" messages ever since I *upgraded* to firmware 160 and PRL 20224 in early November 2006. 99% of the time I would have to “X” out of Sprint Connection Manager to restart the call. Prior to 160 everything worked just fine. I’m running an S620 plugged into a Dell Inspiron 1150 under the XP operating system. I’m located near Austin, TX in an area that gets at least a -82 to -78 db EVDO signal. (four or five “bars” in on the Sprint Connection Manager display)

I have the options set in my S620 card, via the Sprint Connection Manager, to lock to “EVDO Only” and roaming locked to “Sprint Only” so the s620 won’t shift gears by itself.

I had tried a couple of the other "fixes" floating around on the Web - (1) disabling the built in WiFi card and (2) disabling the built in LAN card but they didn't kill off the problems.

“Neurojava” over at http://neurojava.wordpress.com/2006/11/13/sprint-evdo-firmware-upgrade/ came up with a tip to initiate the call via the Windows Dial Up Connection (in Network Connections) and that works like a champ. I.E. Don’t use Sprint Connection Manager at all.

You do have to fly blind without the Connection Manager to display the "Bars". Without the “Bars” to hover the mouse pointer over, you can't take a reading on db signal strength either. However, this isn't critical since the connection doesn't drop out any more. Smile

By the way, if I do start the Sprint Connection Manager after the call is established via Windows Dial Up, the connection goes back into repetitive "Disconnect Mode" until I shut down the Sprint Connection Manager and redial through Windows Dial Up again.

At this point the only use I have for Sprint’s Connection Manager is to set or change the options in the S620 and to terminate the call if I want to continue computing with the Broadband link down.

Now I can only hope that Sprint will come with a fix for the "fix" in 160 and pray that it won't break something else.

Bruce B.

PS – I wish I understood some of the things I “know” about EVDO & the S620. This is a great site – Thanks from a Newbie.

I wonder if this is my problem? While there is, indeed, another user in the area who subscribes to Sprint's EVDO service, I highly doubt they could force me down to 300k.

Either way, if anyone has the firmware that was out before this "troublesome" update...please let this entire community know (also let us know how to install it).

if it can be proven that this firmware is troublesome, it would be worth investigating to see if it was done on purpose or by accident....let's not forget the satellite company Wildblue which passed around a firmware "update" so as to wreck their customers latency (normally customers were getting around 500-700 ms....now they get 1000+ms....and it has been this way for months).

Since the test sites produce such erractic results and often one site shows 3x the speed of another, Mexico and Miami a few nights ago, perhaps we should give less emphasis on their results and instead determine how long it takes to down load a specific file from say VersionTracker.

If, for instance, the time for the download stays consistant over a period of time but the speed sites show tremendous swings, then I would think the speed sites are less than reliable.

Even downloads can be slower from one server than another... Twisted Evil

You do realize that post is nearly a year old (the thread is over a year old), right?
