Looks like EVDO is back in Cary, Illinois Smile

We will do more tests over the weekend, especially more tests on PowerBooks that seem to be affected by this Firmware update (see: Merlin S720 EVDO Rev A and PowerBook Compatibility )

I knew the update was coming in Chicago area, so I left my Windows laptop connected last night at 1xRTT and this am, it was connected on EVDO, never was disconnected.

EVDO is back for me Dayton Ohio 45459.

My card is so new, this is the first time I've seen EVDO performance at home. All I can say is, "Wow!"
-70dBm; 1207kbps down; 108kbps up

Thanks everybody!

Now we need to find out why the firmware update on the HP notebooks fried the S760 cards. And what will Sprint do when it happens again.

And Sprint does not know why 188,000 customers left them this year! What does it cost to get a good customer back? A lot more than the cost of a new card!!! Mad

Not working in NC yet. Still no EVDO. Sad

I can verify. I'm in Salisbury, NC a little north of Charlotte.. showing Rev A EVDO but it won't connect. I'm showing steady 115db but I used to show much better.

Because of the news from here that Sprint would have it fixed in a day or 2 I never called it... I wonder if they think it was only a Chicago area problem.

I think they said it would be "fixed over the weekend". I would wait until after 1am Monday am and try again tomorrow.

On Saturday I was able to reconnect with Signal/Service settings of Automatic/Automatic and transfer speeds resumed at the levels I had before the update. As I am not in a 2006 Rev A area, that is as much as I can ask for. The network fixes Sprint promised early Saturday morning appear to have worked well. Thank you Sprint! The Novatel S720 has returned to its rightful stature as premier hardware for mobile data transmission. Very Happy

Back on in NC now. Tested in the Statesville NC area and it was back to normal. Now, let's see how long till RevA is turned on. Very Happy

Thanks for the quick work Sprint.

Everything seems to be working as it did before the upgrade, which I expected in this non-Rev A area. I do find that if the EVDO/RTT setting is on Automatic I seem to get more EVDO signal waiver. When I put it in EVDO only, it seems more steady.

Does anyone else sense that?

That has always been the case for me. It was the same with the S620 card.

I have been having trouble getting the card to upgrade the firmware after the software update, even tried to call support and they told me to go get a new card because the firmware upgrade utility was freezing at the part where it says it has located a Rev A PC Card.

I ran some windows updates last night, since I just reinstalled my operating system and decided to try to upgrade one last time before going to the store to get a new card. Well it worked just fine, I had to reboot before it would connect again but I'm up and running with the new firmware and software. Don't see a massive increase in speeds, but that might just by my area. Knoxville, TN.

When I hold my mouse over the signal strength I get the following:

Quote:
(1xRTT): -68 dBpm (1xEVDO): -90 dBpm*

My speed test seems kind of low, but is consistent with all the other tests I've run: 678/29 (kbps)

Anyone else from this area getting better connection speeds with the new firmware? Those speeds are about in line with what they were prior to update.

Just thought I'd share my success, even though it took a little bit.

The firmware upgrade isn't going to change your speeds.

The firmware upgrade allows your card to go at EVDO Rev A speeds, when EVDO Rev A is available in your area. Knoxville is not on the list of cities that will be getting RevA first, see:

Those of us with Novatel data cards use Sprint Connection Manager 3.07.005n or its earler siblings, however, they do not also install drivers for the computer to recognize our cell phones when connected with a USB cable. Where do we get such drivers? Installing a second Sprint Connection Manager package that overlays the 3.07.005n doesn't seem life a reasonable solution.

Any suggestions?
