S720 Connection Manager 3.7.5 - ISSUE After Firmware Upgrade

Able to connect to EVDO again. Signal still very low -95dBm to -115dBm (unknown). Seem Sprint has corrected connection problem.

I had problems getting the updated firmware to work, so I wiped out my PB Hard drive to start from scratch and I can confirm that the updated firmware does indeed make the S720 stop working if you followed the modification directions to get it to "work".

We are exploring the options.

We have heard that Apple is working on their driver support to be released soon, we are not sure what cards this update will support.

We really hope that Sprint offers true native Mac support, including activating and provisioning cards and updating firmware. This would be mac friendly.

It looks like the problem will be resolved shortly Smile

Here is the scoop...

A few cell sites were trying to speak Rev A before they were ready. This caused the cards (S720/PX-500) to be confused / not able to connect and drop down to 1X. Sprint is pushing a fix to the affected towers over the next 2 nights to clear this up. Cards are OK, Firmware is OK, PRL is OK.

could that be why mine is working but my performance has taken a hit? I had better signal and more quality connection before this latest upgrade. I just done a test that was 300 down and 60 up.

Thanks for the update Michael. I guess there was no official statement from Sprint? Does soon mean the next couple of nights?

Sprint normally does these updates after 1am. Half are scheduled for tonight and half tomorrow after 1am.

I'm still trying to clear up the issue in this thread, msg Oct 25, 2006 5:37 pm, re getting an "update available" indicator *after* installing 3.07.005n. When the rest of you select "Software Updates>Check Now" in the SCM 3.07 menu, does it indicate you need another SCM update?

mike, that doesn't explain why I am still not able to connect to evdo in St Thomas. Like I said, I updated in Detroit, evdo worked before update. Then I flew to Charlotte, NC and will not connect to evdo, it even showed a Rev-A signal in Charlotte. And now I am in St Thomas, where every tower on the enitre Island is EVDO active but still cannot connect to anything but 1xRtt.

If it is a location problem and not a software or firmware problem then why is it not working when I am on towers outside of that region?

I have in my possesion 7 of the S720 cards. I removed my current 720 and uninstalled the connection manager software.

I pulled a "fresh" 720 out of the box and installed the software that came on the CD in the box. I then inserted the card and launched the software. It asked if I wanted to update the PRL and I said yes. I had no choice in this as it was the first thing to pop up when the software started. (there was no cancel button)

Even though I only did a PRL update, and said no to the software (and firmware) I still am in the same boat. I can not connect to EVDO at all. It's 1xRTT or nothing at all. About 40% of the time when I hit "GO" it says connecting, and the says disconnecting. I hit it again, and it connects.

I am in the Statesville area of NC right now. 28677. It has been the same as the Shelby/Charlotte area.

I will note that after the PRL update, I was seeing the Rev A in the signal meter where as I was not prior to the PRL update.

The fixes are being pushed to the towers early Saturday am and early Sunday am. So, try anytime after Sunday after 7am and lets all compare notes.

For those affected in Chicago, I belive the fix may come in tonight, so try again Saturday.

Looks like EVDO is back in Gurnee, IL 60031. I have not been out yet to check other areas that were impacted.

Thank you to everyone who help with this and posted information, progress, etc. The people here knew FAR more than anyone I ever talked to at Sprint. Now, it will be interesting to see what reason they give when/if they close my ticket...to see if they even make the connection.

Now, when will Rev A get here Smile
