I am in Cary, IL - 25 minutes from you in Schaumburg

I am not able to get any service now when locked into EVDO, when I switch back to Automatic, I am only getting 1xRTT.

When I put the mouse over the signal bars in the Connection Manager, I see:

Code:

Signal (1xRTT) -83dBm*
       (1XEVDO): -115dBm

This probably means the 1xRTT tower is closer to me. However, before the update yesterday, I was able to connect and see via EVDO without a problem.

Today, when I lock in EVDO, I am not getting any service (flashing red on S720), and it tells me that I am roaming and I cannot connect. When I switch back to Automatic, it connects 1xRTT.

I am guessing the asterisk next to the 1xRTT indicates that I am doing domestic roaming, but this can be a big problem, since EVDO worked yesterday and today it isn't.

What would be useful, is for others to post the above info on what they see related to signal strength when they hover the mouse over the signal bars.

Lincolnshire, IL in addition to Gurnee, IL and points between. All strong EVDO coverage areas.

I get the same -115 for EVDO but as late as this morning before I upgraded I was gettin a full set of EVDO bars in my office.

Same here. Where are you located? I'm in the Schaumburg, IL area.

May help when talking to sprint on the phone.

This could be but for me when I lock EVDO I get kicked over to Roaming and can't connect at all Sad

I spoke with some knowledgeable people at Sprint and here is the issue (feature).

The PRL that is included with this update adds "Domestic Roaming". There may be some 1xRTT towers that your card "now sees", that it didn't before. This is exactly what I was seeing. The way around this, is to lock in EVDO and then it was working like it did before.

For those traveling to multiple areas, the latest PRL update should give them much broader coverage than before.

So, we are all in Illinois. Lets think positive and that Chicago is going to EVDO Rev A right now Smile Wishful thinking, we are not suppose to get it until Q1 07.

I will have some people in the know look into why this is happening....

I'm starting to think this is bum firmware. I can no longer use the card on my Mac, which worked before the "upgrade". All I get is an error in the system log:

0 0 AppleVerizonSupport: start - configureDevice failed

Grrr...does anybody know how to downgrade the firmware?

I would be glad to take an outage for Rev A upgrade Smile

If it is of value my case number (sent to a 'Fix Agent' by PC card support) is 14654442-061024

I think the asterisk is telling you which network type you're connected to. I see it also but in my case the asterisk is next to EVDO.

I'll test again near my home tonight in San Diego County.

I was able to resolve the problem with the WRT54G3G-ST. I emailed linksys tech support last night and they suggested to hard reset the device and reconfigure it. I did so, and since then I can now see signal strength again. Once again though, performance through the router isn't as good as with the card in the laptop, especially for upload.

We have heard from others that are having the same issue after upgrading. They can no longer connect to EVDO (Rev 0) and there wasn't a problem before the upgrade.

Until we have more information - we don't recommend upgrading.

Hopefully, we will hear from Sprint soon.

Los Angeles / S620

Had no problems updating, card working fine with comparable throughputs during speed tests.

Went from Firmware 155 to 160 and PRL 20218 to 20224.

Still missing out on Rev-A though and am going to exchange this card for either the s720 or RX-500...

I've updated a couple S720 cards with no problem. I updated the Connection Manager from the Software Update menu rather than downloading the file (no reboot was needed).

Got an error the first time I tried to connect. Took card out, put it back in and everything was OK. No sign of RevA yet though. Sad

I know that Sprint has a bunch of people looking at this issue right now.

Some have had problems.

Some haven't had problems.

I think the more information that we can post, the quicker that Sprint can figure it out (and perhaps we can see a pattern - is it a setting in Connection Manager, is it specific locations in US having problems, etc.)

What would be useful, to post is:

- What exactly you see when you hover the mouse over the signal bars
- What is your City, State, Zip Code
- Repeat test when Mode is Automatic vs. EVDO Only for S720
- Indicate what your "Roaming" option is (Sprint vs. Automatic)

Please post success and failures to this thread (S720 Only).

- What exactly you see when you hover the mouse over the signal bars
Signal (1xRTT): -74dBm*
(1xEVDO): -115dBM

Note that the 1xRTT signal strength will change as I move about but the EVDO one does not even in areas of 100% EVDO coverage.

- What is your City, State, Zip Code
Lincolnshire, IL 60069 and North to Gurnee, IL 60046
- Repeat test when Mode is Automatic vs. EVDO Only for S720
EVDO only forces me to roaming where I can not connect.
- Indicate what your "Roaming" option is (Sprint vs. Automatic)
Automatic with Roam Guard on

I spoke to tech guys at Sprint who are looking into this and we did a bunch of toubleshooting with my Connection Manager.

This may be a problem isolated to the Chicago area.

They are looking into that right now.

If anyone outside the Chicago area is having this problem, please report it here.
