| I see that thre are a few here that appear to be using (or attempting to use) the WRT54G3G-ST with other carriers, but Linksys recommends against anything other than Sprint. Is this just the Linksys / Sprint contract or are there real issues? I'm buying the router and the company the card, but they haven't settled on carrier yet so I don't want to get stuck with a coaster. |

| SVCJeff - I just installed Verizon (PC 5750) on the Linksys. Installation and obtaining service went smoothly although it is interesting to see Sprint as the network on the linksys install screen when its actually connected to the verizon network!! |

I'm using a Kyocera KPC650 card on Verizon's network in the 3G3 just fine. I am currently using it in my RV, the card plugged into a roof mounted Wilson shorty trucker/rv antenna and appropriate pigtail I bought from the folks here.
I leave the connection up all the time except when I'm going to be parked for some time or I'm in a very rural where location where there is no EVDO, then I use my satellite based internet service which is always connected to the 3G3's WAN port.
The Linksys reports that I'm connected to Sprint's network but of course that's only cosmetic.
I'm thinking of giving Sprint a try but being a Verizon customer I'm not that familiar with the Sprint compatible cards. Does the Merlin EX720 ExpressCard/34 card that Sprint sells http://www.sprint.com/business/products/phones/ex720_allPcsPhones.html work with an adapter in this router? If so then this may be the perfect rev A EVDO solution for my MacBook Pro, old PowerBook G4 and the Linksys 3G3 router.

Nope, the EX720 + ExpressCard Adapter does not work in the LinkSys Router (with the current shipping firmware - at least). _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Thanks, Michael.
I eagerly await an expresscard 34 rev a from either network that will work in my MacBook Pro and w/ adapter in my Linksys 3G3. When that happens (via Linksys firmware update or the release of a new card from any vendor for any network) please trumptet it from the highest rooftops so that I may order one. |

Does the new Kyocera KPC680 rev A EVDO card work with a PC Card adapter in the WRT54G3G? I ask because I currently use a KPC650 in the WRT54G3G (when it works, my router died and the one Linksys sent me in return is also dead in a different way) but want to upgrade to an Expresscard/34 so I may also use it in my MacBook Pro.

Unknown at this time.
Kyocera is sending us an eval unit KPC680, so we can test within a week or two (or after we get it).
Since the KPC680 will likely not be on Sprint, it is unlikely that support will be added, so don't hold your breath.
I did test the latest firmware (the beta that fixes the upload issues) and the EX720 + ExpressCard adapter is NOT supported. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Hi,
I live in Canada and am thinking of using this unit alongside my evdo-a aircard service with Bell Canada. I am connecting using their version of the Sierra 595 pcmcia card. If its the same card, does it matter who the wireless company is? |

I used my Verizon-branded Sierra Wireless AC595 (with Rev-A update) when in Ottawa. The EVDO signal was too weak (indicator flickered on and off -- no external antenna yet) so I only had 1X speeds, but it did operate. Curious to see what the roaming charges will be . . . |
