Again - thanks HSF, I do appreciate the feedback. I have seen and tried the link you suggested and didn't get any further than my earlier post.
If others have had Vista success I'd love to hear it. I have searched my \System and \System32 and \INF folders and haven't found anything that appears to be the Pantech driver.
I have a "tip sheet" from Sprint that walks me thru the DUN setup and the first instruction is to install the Pantech driver - however it does not have a link or show a specific file name, it's kind of like behing handed the pink slip to a shiny new car but not given the keys. I've gone back to my local Sprint store several times over the last month since the tech guy gave me these instructions and he has not found the driver and there's no link on his Sprint forum pointing to the driver.

heres what i did.
copy the entire sprint folder from the xp machine. located in c:\program files\ to the vista machine. i just put it on the desktop. then insert the px500 when vista prompts you to install drivers point it to the sprint folder and it should install. for me it went through the install process 3 or 4 times then make your DUN and it should be all good. after the install you can delete the sprint folder.
does anyone know when we'll get a connection manager for the pantech in vista? |

Unfortunately Inky I didn't have similar success though I followed the same procedure many times. I pointed the attempt at finding of the Pantech driver to the \Program Files\Sprint\Pantech and it does a quick search and comes up with nothing.
FWIW, I also attempted to run the XP file in Vista - Pantech_px500_v3.02.021.msi but it comes up with an Error 1721 saying "...there is a problem with the installer" and to Contact the package vender. Installshield then gives an error saying the installation attempt failed and it would not go any further.
If only one person could point me to the XP driver name and/or location of the driver then I suspect I can get Vista to recognize the Pantech card and I can then setup the DUN... |

Hi all,
I've got the Novatel U720 with Sprint. Installed Vista earlier this evening. So I go to connect, and it BSOD's. If I do a manual dial-up connection it gets to "verifying username / password" then BSOD's...
I've installed the update from Sprint.. any ideas?
Thanks!

Did you click cancel when Vista asks to set up network connections? I had the same problem, I uninstalled/reinstalled connection manager clicked cancel when Vista asks to setup network connection and am now not having any difficulties with connection manager and Vista. _________________ longtimelurker |

Thanks for the reply! I don't remember Vista asking to setup a network connection... I'll uninstall everythign and reinstall it again and see what happens.
EDIT: Yep... still BSODs.. the popup saying connect to "3G Network" comes up and I hit cancel.. but still doesnt go. Something about ndis.sys when it bsods. |

| hmm, I have a U720 with Sprint working great with Vista, but I have NDIS disabled. In the Sprint PCS Connection manager, try going into Settings -> Sprint PCS Vision - Novatel Wireless, and uncheck Enabled Network Adater (NDIS). |

Looking more into it, sprint nor Novatel has drivers for Vista 64 bit. I would really love to know why they are not explaining this to their sales reps. Anyway, I found out their is a loop whole around this and I am trying to figure out how I can take advantage. One of the reps at sprint said that if I install the broadband card on XP first I could take the driver from one computer to another. I tried this but Vista can not find it nor recognize it. They told me not to install the software. They said for me to do a manual search for the drivers. Has anyone tried this? If so, can you give me a break down how you did it. Appreciate any help. |
I too am running into exactly the same problem. Please let me know if you find a work around. Thanks. |

Chad,
You can Ultimate in 32 and 64 bit versions. Are you sure you're running the 64 bit version? You check by going into control panel and checking your system tab.
Thanks,
