|
|
I contacted Kyocera last night and they said there would not be a driver for Vista for 1-2 months. Unbelievable. Less unbelievable is that Alltel also has no idea when its software will be updated for Vista installation. Attempting to install directly from setup.exe in the CD's driver folder for Quickmobile gets message that I should update my OS to Windows 98 w/ service pack, I kid you not. Contacted Alltel today and interestingly, he says Blackberry has no Vista driver either yet. He provided me with some drivers that in another blog says the KPC650 works with Verizon software. Has anybody attempted direct installation of these files from device manager? The files I was given (I guess I"m Alltel's first guinea pig) are: kwinstall.exe, kwcoi.dll, pcmdm2k.cat, pcmdm2k.inf,pcprt2k.inf, kwusb2k.sys
Has anybody successfully installed this card for Alltel access? |

| For those of you that may have a combination of and HP 8xxx series Laptop with Verizon v620 card, when inserting the card, you will get a bluescreen. The way to get around this is to disable the Texas Instruments GemCore SmartCard controller. I also downloaded the V620 Vista compatible drivers from the Verizon site, but VZAccess Manager didn't work unless you run it in compatibility mode. |

I have the Pantech PX-500 and run Vista Enterprise and I am essentially screwed. Not only will Sprint's Connection Manager software not install, there are no drivers that I could find that will make the PX-500 work, even with a manual connection.
I NEED my broadband card and need any help you can give. Thank you. |

I took the liberty of joining this forum to comment on this very post. I have the HP nw9440 which has the GemCore Smartcard Controller and disabling the device worked perfectly. How did you discover this fix? |

| I currently have a sprint px500 that I use in my xp laptop. I also have vista loaded on the same computer on a different partition. How do you get the drivers of the installation cd in order that this card can work in vista. Any help is appreciated. |

www.sprint.com/downloads I dont think the PX-500 is listed under Vista, so just download under Windows XP, and you should be in business! You may have to set the installer for Compatibility for XP. _________________

I'd love to know if you get it running under Vista - as far as I can tell the download for the Pantech under XP does not contain a driver it has the Sprint Broadband Communication Manager. I'm under the impression the XP driver is in the firmware on the Pantech circuitry which Vista does not recognize. |

The download at Sprint.com does include the drivers. However, since Vista hates everything, it gives everything grief. Trying the compatibility mode should help, but it may not neccessarily fix it. I had no problem getting my AirCard 580 running on Vista. _________________

Could you please tell me the actual file name of the driver? My understanding after talking to the "tech geeks" and customer service reps at Sprint is the driver is updated via the firmware upgrade and it is on the Pantech pc card itself not on the hard drive. I'd love to to have either a Vista or XP Pantech driver and attempt to get Vista recognize the card and then connect to Sprint broadband via DUN setup [#777]... |

I dont know the exact file name of the driver. It is included in the package you download from Sprint. Gotta love Sprint spport. What they were refferring to is the driver is not built-in to the cards firmware. The driver is in the operating system itself. When the card gets inserted it "Reaads" the devices firmware (whenever you plug in a device it gives the computer a code to work with). From here Windows says "o you are a Pantech PX-500, here, im going to write down some information about you and now you and I can talk to each other".
Try the software. Download it from http://www.sprint.com/downloads see if it loads the driver, and try the compatiblity setting to force it to work.
Report back here and let me know what happens! _________________

I do appreciate the feedback - FWIW I have attempted what you suggest, here is what my experience in Vista as I posted in a different thread:
FWIW I have been using the PX-500 for many months in XP Pro and about a month ago updated the firmware and software. However in Vista Business when I insert the Pantech pc card it prompts me for a "Pantech USB driver", the options are:
Locate & Install driver software (recommended)
Ask me again later
Don't show this again
I click on Locate & Install and it scans my system to no avail. It prompts me for a disk which does not help since there is no driver on the Pantech CD. The other option is "Check for Solution" which gives me the blanket answer of "visit the manufacturer of the device" which does not good since Pantech does not support their card directly they send you to Sprint and Sprint does not offer anything for Vista yet and there is no driver per se in the Pantech Communications Center file for XP.
When I go to the Device Manager of Vista it has an exclamation mark next to Pantech USB modem as well as an ! next to PCI Modem.
That is why I'm wanting an XP {?} Pantech driver that I can try to convice Vista to use and then I can configure the DUN option.
FWIW, I also have a Novatel S620 which Sprint "supports" and I use that term loosely. Though it installed and recognized the S620 card it is very VERY unstable in my experiences. It logs me in and I'm online for less then 5 minutes and when it attempts to re-connect it prompts me for a password, which it should not do since a password is not needed. The only way I can re-connect is to restart Vista. I spent over an hour online with Sprint support [a very distinct Indian accent] and they could not help at all.
This is very frustrating when you consider the Vista Business edition has been available to businesses for 90+ days and the majority of broadband card customers are business people. Just my .02... |

I personally dont like Vista...
Anyways,
I just installed the Pantech software without a hitch here on Vista Ultimate. I didnt even have to change the compatibility settings. It is asking me to "insert my Pantech PX-500 Card". I, of course dont have that card, so I cant go any further. BUT, this does tell me that everything loaded and worked. It will load the drivers as soon as you pop the card in after installation (and reboot). Once that gets done, you can do a DUN. _________________

I have also installed the program via Pantech_px500_v3.02.021.msi but when I actually plug the card in to my laptop the card is not recognized as I described in my previous post. |

lol sorry, its a pain to give tech support over a forum like this. Wow, well I dont think its possible to extract the drivers from that download. I googled the PX-500 driver. If somebody with XP can look in their DriversCache folder in the System32 folder of their Windows Folder *should* be able to find it and send it to you. I unfortunately do not know the name of the driver .ini files. Sorry I cant help you there!
Here is your answer for DUN: http://content.techrepublic.com.com/2346-10878_11-54832.html _________________
