Sorry if it's been asked before. I have an LG VX8000 (verizon) which I use to connect to the internet. I am visiting friends in Atlanta, and am getting EVDO recognition, however, I am unsure about how to get beyond the maximum port speed of 115,200. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Yes, I'm still getting the same speeds as I do in a non EVDO area. Am I missing something? This is my first try at EVDO.

How are you connecting the phone to your laptop?

IF you are using BlueTooth, BlueTooth cannot keep up with EVDO. You need BlueTooth 2.0 which is just starting to appear in laptops, I don't think phone/pdas have 2.0 yet.

Is it USB-based or a serial port?

If USB cable, does it show up as a USB device or a serial device (e.g. a c om port)?

In the latter case of either above, 115kbps is going to be the typical max due to the serial port or serial port emulation. There are a small number of chipsets that support 230kbps max, so if you are lucky, you may have the ability be able to double the 115kbps speed, but it's not likely.

Thanks, Brendan, it is a USB cable, shows up on com port 4. How would I know if my chipset would double the rate to 230 kps?

I dunno, you'd probably have to figure out what chipset is being used and be lucky enough to find there's a configuration setting and/or configuration file that can be changed. I don't know if the usb serial emulations chips are typically in the adapter cable or are part of the phone.

I suspect, though, you are likely stuck at 115kbps.

Thanks. I just ran some speed tests at dslreports.com, and was getting speeds ranging from 194 to 227 kps depending on the server. That was with venturi compression. I guess it's all in one's perspective, because the speed seemed quite good . . .
