I have owned a Kyocera PC air card for the past year. I am one
year into a two-year contract with Verizon that is costing me $60
a month. Been very happy with the Verizon Broadband service
using the aircard.

As of this week I am a new Blackberry 8073e owner. With
the $44 per month Internet access and $15 tethering fee
I can use my phone for Internet access on my PC and BLACKBERRY
for the SAME PRICE as I was paying with the aircard alone.

I probably will have to cancel my aircard contract which will
cost me nearly $200 -- but in the long run, I still save $60
a month for the next year so it sort of works out.

Now on to my question....

What do you guys think of using the Blackberry tethered
as an air card for your PC?

Do you think it's any faster/slower than using an air card?

I can give you my initial impressions....

The tethering works perfectly. The Blackberry connected
with no problem to my PC using VZ Access Manager.

The signal is actually STRONGER with the Blackberry than it
was with my Kyocera air card, which is sort of strange since
the air card had a protruding antenna.

The only thing I notice is that *perhaps* surfing speed is
slower with the Blackberry PC connection -- which doesn't
make sense since I am getting a stronger signal.

I have really only used the Blackberry as an air card for a
short time, so really, I can't give an objective opinion yet.

Hopefully those of you using the Blackberry tethered to
a PC can give me your impressions.

Looking forward to your responses.

I'll give you an update as far as what I just found out
from calling Verizon....

They said that the speeds offered to aircard vs. Blackberry
tethering customers are exactly the same.

The reason why the PC browses faster with an actual
air card is because of memory size. The air card has a
larger memory buffer while the Blackberry has a larger task
in pushing that information through.

There are many threads up here on EVDOforums.com, where people tried and tried without success. Mac OS X doesn't have built-in support for Blackberry.

See this thread for an example on the 7130e:
