I cannot get the OS to even recognize the card insertion. HP voice support was worthless, the chat support told me to install some drivers for ATI SMBus which I did but there was no change. I did some searching here and found a suggestion to get a new BIOS (F.44) which I did but no change. It just doesn't recognize that a card was even inserted.

This laptop has an AMD processor and is running Windows XP Media Center.

The card itself installed fine and operates fine in a tablet pc by Motion Research.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is that a Verizon PC5740 card that you are having problems with. Refer to this link if you are not sure.

That configuration should work as long as you have the latest BIOS. Make sure you install the software before you insert the card, per the instructions. The VZAccess software will prompt you when its time to insert the card. I presume you are running Windows XP SP2. If it still doesn't work you may want to try another Verizon card to ensure you don't have a bad card, or perhaps you have a problem with your laptop.
Thanks,
