In scanning the TOS for a couple of the carriers I noticed that Verizon Wireless (at least) prohibits use of amplifiers, repeaters and regenerators. Use of such seem to be cause for cancellation of service.
My questions are:
o Is this correct?
o Has it happened to anyone ?
o Do the TOS of any carriers appear to permit it?

| The other carriers for the most part look the other way, unless your amplifier is improperly installed and causes interference to their system. This usually manifests itself when there is not adequate isolation between the donor and indoor antenna and the repeater (BDA) oscillates. This can cause a site to be blocked because of excessive noise to the service provider's site or site(s) recieve multicoupler. Regards Bill |

That would be a symptom of insufficient isolation all right! Possibly that is one of the reasons that others (allegedly) condones them, as indicated elsewhere in this thread. Apparantly they have built-in dynamic AGC and/or dynamic gain control which would help serve to prevent this condition. I don't know how fancy the implementation is, as I haven't ever seen one and the on-line documentation leaves a lot to be desired, but it would seem that in a stationary environment, by monitoring for output stage saturation and backing the gain off 10 dB (or so) below that point it should be possible to avoid oscillation.
On amplifiers without gain control, I wonder how the cariers feel about potential over-drive and the resulting distortion that results. I can't imagine them being too happy with the prospect.
