What is the Alltel "Friendly Network?"

I've had a lot of problems with a weak signal and often when I try to reconnect in Quicklink a red "R" is flashing for "friendly network". What does that mean?

I tried a booster antenna which had no affect at all so have ordered a Kyocera specific one in hopes that will work better.

Any ideas to help improve my weak signal? It changes constantly and results in many disconnects.

While I am not an Alltel user, my guess this means you are roaming on a "friendly" non-Alltel network, if you are roaming with EVDO coverage as far as I know Alltel only has roaming agreement with Sprint. However with 1xRTT service I know they roam on Sprint, I'm pretty sure about Verizon too, and maybe more.
