Hello,
I just got my Verizon - Audiovox PC 5220 card and service.
Works great. However I am looking for a case to protect the card when it is not in use. If you have any suggestions or experiences please reply.
Thanks!

ps. I looked in the forum's history and could not find anything. |

I used an folding zipper pen case for mine. It fits. I looked in CompUSA and other stores for a case, and I could not find one.

I'm using a Pelican 1040 Micro Case I got from Frys for my V620, I have a second I keep the external antenna in. Water proof, and I can throw it out of the car and go back and get it with no damage... hard shell.
Very close to the Otter Box, I actually thought it was an Otter box when I first saw it. |

Hi, I had the same problem and had some nice metal ones made. First cut is at www.kardkase.com, they are a little bigger than they need to be, but work great! Next iteration due any day, and is a perfect fit for the 5220. Thanks, Bruce |

The www is not failing. The posted link has an erroneous comma " , " embedded within the URL. _________________ Did you ever stop to think .... and then forgot to start again? |

Thanks for the post on those cases - they look very cool.
I am going to order a few and try them out.
After I get em, I will post pictures with all the PC cards on our web site (to make sure all 4 cards actually fit in it). _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Michael,
Thanks for the order! This first batch should work for any EVDO or WiFi card as the cases are oversized. Next generation is a lot thinner and is a perfect fit for the 5220 and shorter WiFi cards (my Linksys G card works great, but I think the super G ones are longer, as is one of the newest VZW cards). I'll put up some more pictures on www.kardkase.com once I get the next batch, and will probably start development on a longer one as well, and maybe a double one. Anxious for your feedback. Bruce |

Thanks Bruce!
I will put up pictures with your case and:
- PC 5220
- AirCard 580
- Novatel V620
- KPC650
So, others can see what it looks like (you can use the cases on your site too).
Thanks again. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I sent your two cses today, as well as a bonus prototype of my new custom designed one for the 5220 (works for many WiFi cards too). Your feedback and honest critique will be welcome.
Thanks, Bruce |

Looks good, just ordered 3.
Much smaller than the ones I had been using.

Got mine today (3 cases) this is not a great choice for the V620, you have to tear out some of the padding because the tip of the card that contains the antenna and activity light does not allow the case to close otherwise. If the card is perfectly flat, like a card that takes a dongle it should not be an issue. My USB2/Firewire card wouldn't fit without the pad removal (again the part that sticks out of the laptop was to think for the case to close), but my PCMCIA to CF reader was a perfect fit.
Not crazy about the locking mechanism, just indented metal that "should" keep it close, but twice it was opened while in my laptop bag; a rubber band fixed that and it will not longer open.
Case has some give to it, it will flex. This seems to be the cause of the lid opening.
Out of 10 stars, I'd give it a 7.5 for the V620 and 9 for any device that would allow the case to close without any pad removal. It would get an 8.5/10 if the case would stay closed without a rubber band - but if you keep in a briefcase it might not open.
Good:
Case construction should protect card
Size, takes up little room
The price, very fair.
The service, quick shipping and great customer service.
Bad:
Size, needs to be a bit thicker - this can be accommodated for by removing about an inch of padding.
Locking mechanism, holding the case you can lightly pinch it on both sides of the locking mechanism and cause the lid to open. Not good for a laptop bag, but easily fixed with a rubberband. |
