Well, I got the V620 today and it's great so far, here's a speed test I did, very odd about that upload speed eh? I'll do a series later tonight to get a real feel for it, it seems very fast.

There is no flap on the antenna which is great for typing, the 5220 got in the way because of the position of my PC slot. I had to uninstall the 5220 software and use new SW for the V620, it had an option to convert my dial up dialers to wireless to work with my cell phone, I'll try that later.

I'm trying the Venturi software again to see if it'll work better with this card than it did with the 5220...

So far so good.

I can't get into my picture account right now so it may be later when I can upload the pic.

This test is more like it...

This is with Venturi turned off, still having problems with it. I'll try again but I'll probably uninstall it.

OK, it's offficial. The V620 is twice the card the 5220 is. I'm getting a consistent DL of 800-900kb. My old 5220 was consistent at 400-500kb. If you can trade for the 620, do it.

The software is more refined as well, I have it set up to automatically logon at boot which the old SW didn't do (to my knowledge) and it has something called Quick 2 Net which another format for going on line but I haven't looked into that yet.

The V620 has 2000kb capability which will be great if Rev A ever gets released. I'm *extremely* pleased with this card and predict a quick demise of the PC5220.

Let me reiterate, if you are considering EVDO, get the V620, not the PC5220! It's that much better. Smile

I just bought and activated a Sierra Aircard 580 with Verizon. So I still got almost two weeks to try out the Sierra card.

I read how much better V620 card is vs 5220. Does anyone has a view of how V620 compares to Sierra Aircard 580?

The Sierra uses the older national access which is limited to 144kb d/l and normal is 40-60kb. The V620 uses the national broadband EVDO which has adverised d/l speed of 300-500 and in reality, actually does a bit better.

I don't know where you are located or if you travel but if you are in or near an evdo area or do any traveling you should get the national broadband service. One poster says his V620 gets faster service in a non-evdo area compared to his old Sierra card.

The Sierra PCard 580 is a dualband card -- 1xRTT and EV-DO.

That's interesting, so there are three EVDO cards. That card isn't available in this area, the only Sierra is a 1X, the 555. I guess if EVDO takes off, there'll be a lot of cards coming out.

Here's a review of the Sierra I found, it looks a lot like the 5220 with that damn flap antenna, if your PC slot is near your keyboard, that flap is a real problem.

I have had the opportunity to compare the PC5220 and the V620 cards in a marginal environment. I am new to Verizon Wireless data, but as an Engineer it is in my company's interest to test Verizon's network for a possible alternative to what we are currently using for field internet connectivity.

First, let me say that Verizon's cellphone signal strength at my home is spotty, low signal strength. With the low signal level I did not expect the new wireless data connection to work well, probably not at all. I selected the the PC5220 card as it had a good track record and the V620 was new without a track record.

From home, with the PC5220 installed, I picked up the Verizon National Network but with no bars as expected. However, the indication was it had "connected" to this network however after many tries and I could not get connected to the internet, and the LED on the PC5220 was consistently RED.

Later I drove to a place where the Verizon signal strength was good. All worked fine and I was VERY impressed by the BW tests that I ran. Way way above 60-80K I was expecting. On my mind was the Verizon's sales persons remark that the V620 is a new card and I should try it. So I did, exchanging the PC5220 for the V620.

The results with the V620 were dramatic. At home, where the PC5220 would not connect and the LED was red, with the V620 the LEd was green and instantly connected to the internet with with speeds of 280K to 855K depending on what speed checker I used. Also, a new wireless connection showed up called "Quick 2 Net (14.4K)".

The bottom line, in my experience is the V620 card is more sensitive. I will need to drive to the same spot where I checked the speed of the PC5220 to compare the speed of the two. But I must say I am very impressed with the V620. It took me from no service at home (with the PC5220) to a reliable internet connection. Maybe I had a bad PC5220 card.. who knows? I would like to hear from others.

I am new to EVDO. Have had the V620 for 2 weeks. Performance fluctuates more than I would like. I get 2 bars sometimes al the way to no bars - all while sitting still. I can start in Broadband and mysterously find myself in Nationalaccess. I am supposed to be inside the coverage zone in Atlanta for Broadband.

If I can get this to work consistently I will love it. If not, I will probably take it back. $80/month should get me something better than what I have been seeing.
