So Novatel announced the MCD3000 USB modem but it looks different than the u720 pics that are out. Yet engadget seems to think it's the same as u720. Guess we'll have to wait and see what Sprint announces.

This u720 pic doesn't seem to fit the 'small cellphone' description of the MCD3000. Are they they the same or two differen USB products?

| So here is a stupid question. Why hasn't anyone come up with a standalone EVDO modem box with BT 2.0 at its primary connection? That way, it can be easily used with a desktop, laptop, or PDA? |

| Bluetooth is limited to 10meters in general. There are 100m versions of BT but it draws a lot more power, which defeats a key purpose of BT. |

My guess would be is because it would require the user to carry around another power supply, among other things.
Just a guess though

Power is not a partiuclar issue. The PC card version is going to suck the power on your laptop. The only difference here is that the BT modem is batter powered.......and with today's high powered rechargeables and low power BT chipsets, it makes sense.
Power supply can be built in and easily powered via a simple USB plug. If they can a build a GPS unit the size of a two boxes of matches, they can do the same with a EVDO BT modem.
I think there is a huge market for this. |

My current Sony UX 180 and the new solid state flash model with 32 gb, the UX 90 that I want to get all use 40 watts of power ("Power Consumption:
A/C adapter: 40W 100-240V / 50-60 Hz"). What does that mean? Is that a lot? I am wondering if power in the tiny UX will be an issue, especially since they both use just one usb port. http://www.dynamism.com/ux/specs.shtml _________________ SonyTX17P&UX90S |

Probably will be available from dealers like Michael pretty quickly, too.
Probably no reason to run out and get a new card yet, since the backhaul is lucky if it can support 1-meg bursts in most cases, let alone 3-meg. Still, nice to see they are rolling it out, and hopefully they will beef up the cells, too - that will help us all get the most out of it, even on the older cards. |
There are no usb modems at this link you gave. _________________ SonyTX17P&UX90S |

My google search shows that the M1 and the 7000 are very different phones. The M1 is a clamshell that is over an inch thick when folded !!??
The rumor mill states that the M1 does not have rev A.

Sprint has not announced a USB device yet. |
So I guess we might be waiting a while for this. I was really hoping this u720 would be the one for me.... _________________ SonyTX17P&UX90S |
