I have a Kyocera KPC650 Passport data card through Alltel.
Recently I have had a problem with it disconnecting a lot. The signal strength is usually 58-61%.
The application screen shows a blinking "R" which indicates "friendly network". What does this mean?
Is there a way to improve my connection and keep it from disconnecting all the time?

I considered an antenna but the reception was just fine until the last few days. The disconnect happens within a couple minutes of signing on, even with 61% and the session log says it is error 4. I'm also wondering what the flashing red "R" for friendly network means.

That means that you a probably roaming on Sprint. Is there anyway for you to lock your software onto Alltel?

I keep getting disconnected on my Alltel EVDO as well, but my connection lasts for an hour or two before it just stops responding. I use the Motorolla E815 tethered to my PC. My connection is always atleast upper 60s to 70%. I thought maybe some port was being shut down by windows firewall or maybe even the software itself. The software still says I am connected, but all web pages will time out and all downloads no longer move. The only way to restart the service is to end task on the program and unplug, and replug the usb adapter from the phone.
Anyone have this experience and what to do about it? I think I may be connecting to a Verizon tower, I have seen (when doing a speed test at broadbandreports.com) it say Verizon instead of Alltela few times. I am using the Rockies Amp from Maximum Signal if that matters.
I just realized that I didn't try to reinstall the software yet. I will try that and see first and report back.
Thanks for any ideas in the mean time. |

| Well, reinstalling it didn't help, but I think I may have found the problem. I have not logged into Xfire since last time I connected and I am still connected over 3 hours later. |
