Here is a simple way to determinee if you are in an EVDO Rev A area:
Menu -> Device Info & Diagnostics -> Network Service
If it says EVDO Rev A, you are in an EVDO Rev A area.
You can also hover the mouse over the signal bars and it will quickly tell you if you are in an EVDO Rev A area:
As new locations are reported, we will update this message.
New... Sprint is now showing EVDO Rev A on their static coverage maps. Many areas NOT on the above list are showing up with EVDO Rev A, so be sure to check the maps at:
http://powervision.sprint.com/mobilebroadband/plans/coverage.html
Report any new EVDO Rev A coverage sightings to this thread. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier

There is an easier way to see if you are in EVDO Rev A (need to confirm).
The little arrows that you see when connected, will be a different color when connected via EVDO Rev A, perhap yellow. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Is there a list out for when other cities are going to be getting the Rev A Network? I live in Phoenix and we usually are one of the first to get technology upgrades. |

revA is live in detroit but speeds are not stable yet. you can also hold the mouse over the antenna area that shows your signal strenght and it will say revA also there is a slight yellow to the data now. dslrports not working to good tonight but here is a copy and paste of my test at the following site.
Download Speed: 2455 kbps (306.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 190 kbps (23.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Before I had been getting about half that download speed.
The upload speed is the same however.
Note that even though it says the distance is ~100 miles, I am actually in downtown DC. |

It is indeed live here in San Diego. The arrows in the client app do turn yellow when you make the connection.
My connection is pretty weak so I probably won't do any speed tests tonight.

From Cherokee's reports the latency isn't super impressive so far.
To those testing I would love to hear about what pings you are getting. |

How about for ping times, everyone pings to the same location, so it will be easier for comparisons.
I suggest EVDOforums.com & Google.com
Keeping in mind, it will depend on how many hops aways you are and that can impact ping times. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

| A better measurement might be first doing a tracert to some arbitrary site see where the first hop is off the box. Then do ping times to that host. |

That is what I've been doing. It seems that the biggest slowdown occurs as my traffic leaves the sprint network. The first few hops are sub-100 fairly consistently. If I recall correctly there were 6-8 hops before it even leaves Sprint.
Hopefully my antenna will arrive today so I can do some more detailed testing at home tonight. |

Actually, what Rickster suggests is really the best way to test.
If the slow down occurs once you leave the Sprint network, that really has nothing to do with your EVDO connection. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I'm aware of that. Obviously the most critical part of our connection is the wireless link, but if it takes forever (in a millisecond world) to exit the sprint network, what's the true benefit of having a faster connection on the wireless end? Actual ping time to the internet is still relevant, and I was referring to seeing slowdowns BEFORE leaving sprint.
It seems to be behaving better today (at my non-Rev A work site). But last night when I was testing, ping times to the last couple of hops within sprint were in the 200s, while I was seeing 80s to the first hop. That would clearly affect real-world performance. |

Someone in San Diego shows a RevA test on dslreports archive....
http://www.dslreports.com/archive/spcsdns.net
883/304 Sprint EV-DO-Rev A anon San Diego, CA, USA California, USA 25th 02:19 PM area2.spcsdns.net
Not an impressive download speed at 883Kbps but the upload is 304Kbps. The HA is set to area2, which is in the midwest, so may not be as efficient as it could be. |
