There's an interesting discussion about 700w vs 700wx on treocentral forums. The 700w just didn't have enough memory.

http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=123459

Someone points out how Sprint used to get new flashy phones first and would find the bugs and Verizon users would benefit with next release. Now Verizon gets the new phones first, users find the bugs and Sprint users benefit.

Palm does seem to be lagging in innovation though. Some on treocentral think 700wx is outdated before released. Bummer it doesn't have Bluetooth 2.0 (keep up with EVDO speeds) and SDHC (allows >4GB SD cards). RevA would have been nice but probably too tight a window when developed. We won't see RevA Treos until probably late next year and I doubt RevA will show up on PalmOS, probably only WM5. HSDPA is coming later this year though, but not on PalmOS, only WM5.

If the next MotoQ coming later this year has BT2.0, SDHC and RevA, say goodbye to Palm. Now if the Q just had a touchscreen.

The Q is not a real competitor to the Treo. The Q is more of a consumer product for folks who want a full keyboard. No Office apps and no touch screen on the Q. The Treo is for business.

I would say that having to wait 8 months for a Windows Mobile Treo is not a promotional feature Sprint is likely to tout. People that I know have never complained about the memory problem in the 700w, but then again they only use the phone for PIM, email, text messaging, web browsing and calls. They don't really use the Office applications, games or 3rd party applications too much.

The more disturbing thing to me as a Sprint customer is the price. I use a Treo 650 and I would be interested in moving to Windows Mobile Treo (Palm OS seems to lack full Wi-Fi integration) but why on earth is the price $100 more ($200 more if you count the rebate) than the Verizon Windows Mobile Treo? It is true that Sprint's monthly charges are more reasonable, but this pricing seems out of whack to me.

Personally, Sprint will get me to get a new Treo (along with the corresponding two-year service extension) when it includes EV-DO, Wi-Fi extension capability, a slimmer handset and Bluetooth DUN. Any Treo short of that is just not worth upgrading from the Treo 650 in my opinion.
