Hi,
I currently have the PC5740 card and primarily use it inside a steel sail boat. Works well I typically average 3 bars and occasionally loose my connection about 4 times per 8 hours of use.
I’m interested in getting a permanent mount antenna and possibly signal booster (Planning for a cruse (Costal US)), generally when cruising one stays up to 6 or so miles offshore. Few questions for the group:
How high up the mast should one locate the antenna?
Would Radar, VHF, GPS, TV…etc antennas affect the reception?
Would the aluminum mast affect the antenna?
The PC5740 does not have an external antenna option, what card is the best w/connector?
Also considering the K1 Kyocera WAP, is it worth wile?
Could a previous VHF, Lorance or GPS wire be utilized for the antenna wire only as apposed to running a new wire one?
Any help would be appreciated…Nichoals |

Scott, can reply to this topic today or tomorrow. He has been evaluating a few marine antennas and Scott has finished his testing and has a clear winner in performance.
We expect to have them in our store later this week. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

The marine antenna I refer to in the What Is The Best EVDO Antenna thread is the Digital Antenna 288-PW.
If you're looking for something longer for elevation, the other Digital Antenna marine antennas are a good choice, but they require the purchase of a ferrule and separate mount at minumum, and may require custom coax too, depending on your needs. |
