Michael/Scott:

I didn't get my U720 from you guys but I want to get a KR-1 while the rebate is on (before end of year). Does the new firmware fully support the U720 without performance limitations? Since this is the only router with a USB port (AFAIK) I'm sure this is an important question for many of us.

Also, is something new around the corner from Kyocera (that's what rebates usually mean Wink)

TIA,
Todd/Indy

I doubt this is a KR1 problem. But, I've been visiting these "Find location by IP" websites. And it never gets my location right. Sometimes it says I live in Los Angeles, other times it says Kansas City, MO.

I live in Arizona. Could this be a cause of high latency issues?

::did another test while typing this, now it says::
IP Address Location Test N1 Results:

Your Host: h460751f0.area7.spcsdns.net

Probably not. The IP you are assigned by the HA comes from a giant pool that the carrier owns. They are registered in cities all over the country. Often when I'm testing Sprint Rev. A in KR1 it will tell me I'm in Kansas City (Sprint headquarters) when I'm really here in San Diego. The test is valid because I'm still testing the link between me and the server in Los Angeles; it just doesn't report it correctly.

I am still having S720 and KR1 problems.
Firmware Version: RK1008 , Tue, 21 Nov 2006
I am running the KR1 with default settings except wireless mode is turned off.

KR1/S720 will always stop responding after 20min of file downloading. And will randomly stop during normal surfing. But the more I download, the faster it will 'freeze up', where I am force to reboot the router.

I am willing to try any settings or anything else to get this working correctly. Any advice would be nice Smile

This error is always in my log:

Hello Patrick! Smile

Please keep your eye to this thread over the next couple weeks if you don't mind. I've had a KR1 now for about 2-3 months. Had been with Verizon, but their [not so] "Unlimited Data" policy threw a wrench in downloads. I opted only today to sign up with Sprint and they've provided me with the S720 card. Certainly I'm happier than I was with the Verizon performance. Whether it was Verizon service/signal strength, their card itself, or the KR1...while with Verizon the KR1 was resetting all...the...time :banghead:.

So tonight is the first night with the new S720...as well as Sprint's service/signal strength. So far, pretty happy. However, just moments ago I got a "disconnect" on website & noted the KR1 was resetting itself. Hope that isn't a sign of things to come with Sprint as well...

Anyway, I anticipate tomorrow that I will perform the RK1008 (hopefully without bricking the KR1) and see how the speeds perform. But in truth, I'm not overly disappointed thus far with my speeds. Its this KR1 recycling issue that bugs me. Why? Besides the obvious... I recently purchased a Sony PS3. And Sony doesn't presently offer any sort of download resume feature if a D/L breaks connection. So I get to start aaaaaaaall over if the KR1 recycles.

So I make my plea above to ask that you keep your eyes open to any further posts from me (certainly, I'll post if all turns out well over the next week). But since you noted that you "found a fix" but didn't elaborate on what fixed your particular problem...I hope I may call on you if I continue to find the KR1 recycling.

BTW...to anyone...I also notice that I cannot presently connect to Sony's Playstation Store since the switch to: A) Sprint Service, or B) S720 card. I seem to be able to connect to the Internet through the PS3's web browser. But I cannot get to the PS3 Store for downloads at all presently. Wondering if I'll discover that some setting or another needs to be changed within the PS3 now that I'm using the new card/connectivity over that of Verizon's...? I doubt I'll get a response on this forum regarding the PS3 issue, and that's okay. I'll pitch that issue to avsforums.com if I continue to have problems throughout this weekend of trial/error.

Anyway, gotta say I love the KR1 in so may other respects (really been a blessing to network my house, increase internet connectivity throughout the house, etc. Just gotta get these lil' bugs worked out with the new card/service from Sprint I suppose Wink.

Thanks all!
Dave

PostPosted: Mon Jan 01, 2007 12:05 pm    Post subject: Arrgh... Okay: KR1 + S720 /= Sony Playstation Store Reply with quote

Well here's where I sit presently. I switched from Verizon to Sprint. Sprint provided me with the S720 card. I've updated the KR1 firmware to RK1008 successfully. I've also successfully updated the firmware for the S720 card from Sprint's link within their ISP software.

Very happy with internet connectivity in general. Fine for my 802.11 laptop. Fine for my ethernet ported desktop in another room in the house. Strangely, fine INTERNET connectivity for my Sony PS3.

But the *rub* comes in when I try, with the PS3, to log onto the Sony's Playstation Store. This is a separate login feature within the PS3's XMB (cross-menu bar). I get an immediate error there. BUT...when I remove the S720 card and replace it with the Verizon card, reboot the KR1, and then return to the PS3, I can get to the Playstation Store. Grrr... Effective 01/03, I will no longer have Verizon service. No love loss there. And I like the Sprint speed increase. I just need to get over this hurdle regarding accessing Sony's Playstation Store.

I don't want to ramble here, because I suspect my interests (the PS3 Sony Store) are of little interest to others on this thread. My frustration simply begins with wondering: WHERE SHOULD I START? Who's support should I first seek out? I would appreciate 'most logical' suggestions.

Thanks,
Dave

All's well... Seems I'd disabled the DHCP feature. Charming goof! Wink. Anyway. That part is fixed, and all equipment/connectivity is moving smoothly in the house. Well, all except for my PS3. I think I may try Sony support there since everything else is working like a well oiled machine.

Hi w1ngman ... Looks like simplypatrick's "fix" was to buy a linksys

I am confused ... Did you enable your DHCP to solve your problem ?

Short answer: Yes, enabling the DHCP solved (the larger networking) problem I'd posted here about).

Longer answer Wink: I suppose my post was a bit clumsy there. A previously mentioned, I'd had reason to switch from Verizon to Sprint; new service, new cards. Although Verizon's "Unlimited Data" plan began locking me down within the first month of my Sony PS3 ownership (and my subsequently immediate downloading of a schload of PS3 demos, blu-ray movie trailers, etc.), I was still having a little luck logging into the Playstation Network via Verizon's service. Still, it was sketchy at best...and ultimately I received a cancellation of [Unlimited Data, remember Rolling Eyes ] service by Verizon.

So I hopped over to Sprint with their assurances that their Unlimited plan is truly that. Installed Sprint's software to my laptop, popped the S720 into my KR1...and all was initially fine (EXCEPT) I could not get onto the Playstation Network at all. Strange, immediate "hammer down" error on-screen when I'd attempt to log in. And any effort to check on firmware upgrades for the PS3 would similarly result in an error...but add a message indicating a problem with the DNS server.

So, I began (now remember...I'm have been a bit of a newb when it comes to networks...so I probably had no business doing the following...) I began tinkering around in the KR1 menus/settings to see if, perhaps, there was something that needed to be adjusted to take into account Sprint's service and/or the new S720).

Coming across this site, I was made aware that the S720 had an upgrade for the KR1...definitely something I should take care of. So I did everything by the directions, and whether or not I'd conducted the firmware upgrade correctly or not, I still was getting the errors when attempting the PSNetwork login. So, what to do, but fiddle some more...

Anyway...I remember that during a tinkering effort, I opted to disable the DHCP feature within the KR1. Well...imagine the problems I incurred at that point (especially as a newb, right?! Surprised). Everything fell off the network! I could not get the KR1 back...so I could not re-enable the DHCP feature. Well, they say the best lessons learned are the hardest ones. And tonight, I dare say I know a LOT more about networking than I did a week ago Cool .

So Friday evening I worked with my KR1's Support tech to access the KR1 again. But it'd be shortlived. We'd get me on, then he'd have me reboot the KR1 and/or the laptop...and we'd lose the KR1 again. So he'd get me there...but it wouldn't be stable if you will. Literally a couple hours into this call, and the support tech kinda gave up on me suggesting that he got me back to the KR1...anything else that's happening I should investigate with Sprint. Well, as patient as he'd been with me, I asked him to help me one more time. This time, more than forced ISP & DNS settings and such, I asked him to walk with me through all the various menus/settings to review if anything might seem amiss to him. I'm personally proud to admit that I actually figured that out on my own, while working with the tech. I'd noticed on the laptop/network settings-side, it would ask about accepting dynamic DNS settings. That made me think...is there a setting on the KR1 that generates the dynamic DNS settings that my laptop might want to receive if so set? And it was after the tech got me back onto the KR1's menu, that I saw the DHCP menu feature. Bingo-bango...the Disabled DHCP setting was glaring. Enabled it, and I was soaring.

Still...there's no joy for the PS3 Network login however. But I'm more inclined to consider this to now be an issue solely in the lap of the PS3. I might just nuke the PS3 and restore it to its original settings, recreate my login, etc.

One interesting thing I'd noticed. My support tech walked me through 'resetting' the KR1 (I'm assuming, to 'factory defaults'). If we did reset it, then it was surprising that the KR1 DHCP setting was 'Disabled.' Is that the default? Similarly, remember when I'd mentioned that I'd attempted early on to upload the RK1008 firmware? Never knew whether I'd successfully done that or not since every time I'd try, I'd get an ERROR page immediately upon clicking the OPEN button once I'd browsed to the RK1008.bix file. BUT...interestingly enough, if the tech did indeed reset my KR1 back to defaults, then I was surprised over this weekend to discover that the firmware version is presently noted at RK1008. Hmmm...

Well...I'm not known for short posts (you should TALK to me sometime if you want REAL punishment Wink). Anyway, thanks for the ear, or eyeball... And again, all things being equal, I've become a bit more network-aware as a result of this exercise. Still more to learn, but a good foundation.

OK ... I can see how disabling DHCP would cause some network issues Wink

Came to this post searching on KR1 log entry:

user.warn klogd: FCS error; flush

simplypatrick had same issue and no solution fer me Sad
(Linksys no support KPC650)

Good luck w/ the PS3 ... I a Xbox man myself Wink

That's okay;). All gaming is good gaming my friend.

Oh! And tonight I tamed the Lions, and Tigers, and Bears! (or better put as IP Addresses, Gateways, and Primary/Secondary DNSs Cool ). I got my PS3 back on my network this evening. Downloaded Gran Turismo HD...and have been playin for a couple hours now. Ahhhhh...I'm spent, and done with this thread.

Thanks all & best of luck to others too! Meridian/Sprint seem to be proving a decent pairing with the KR1. And with RK1008, I can report no issues!
