Yes, that is bad. I skip the boring technical details by noting that there is a much higher chance of bricking the router when you try the upgrade process with a card in it. The router will function perfectly fine if you power it up without a card. Ensure that you're removing (or inserting) your card while the unit is powered off. Doing so while it is powered on will lock the router up and require a powercycle. |

We received the RK1008 build yesterday from Kyocera.
If you purchased your KR1 from us, please email (support at booster-antenna.com) and we will email the update to you (include you order number for faster processing). _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Michael,
Well..... did the RK1008 firmware fix the S720 / KR-1 issues??? Or, have you not had a chance to test it?
Fingers crossed hoping it worked!....... |

Yes it did
I am in a Rev 0 area and I was getting 1100 - 1200Kbps from my KR1 with my S720 and RK1008. That is the same speeds I get when the S720 is in my laptop _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

sweeeeeeeeet!!!! I'm so glad!!!! Although I didn't buy my KR-1 from you guys (wish I had though), I could really use RK 1008 right now. I just called and spoke to Kyocera and they'll supposedly email me a link to the download as it's not on their website....Or, maybe you could email me what you have....to wallvestor@yahoo.com.... pretty please |

We are getting one in on Monday and we will test and report back then. |
Hi Michael and all,
This question may have been asked already (I'd be very surprised if it hadn't), but when will the RK1008 firmware upgrade be available for download to consumers?
My S720 is working very well, but at half-speed, as I read it would. I'm getting between 290 and 375 Kbps through-put, but would really like to be around 600 to 700+ (who wouldn't?).
Thanks for letting me know! _________________ Cheers, Robbie |

Hi Muircheartach
RK1008 should be available for general download on Kyocera's KR1 support page sometime this week.
If you are a Booster-Antenna.com KR1 customer, contact us and we will provide an advance copy. |

Hi Scott,
Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, I bought the KR1 from you folks, which would make me your customer. If you can let me know where I can download the firmware from, I would appreciate it.
Thanks again! _________________ Cheers, Robbie |

I really could use the 1008 patch as well. Didnt buy the S720 from you, but today we just signed up for a whole new Sprint account and a U720.

YEE-HAA!!! I updated the firmware to RK1008 and performed several CNET bandwidth meter tests - the slowest was 689.4 Kbps - the fastest was 733.8 Kbps!!!
Thanks for the help - the router is now ready to support in primetime - I'm going to do testing with five concurrent WiFi/WAN users and see what the throughput deterioration looks like. I'm also going to see how this works with several folks running our classified VPN applications - I'm thinking that this will be a great alternative to giving everyone an EVDO card if they work in groups!!
Thanks again! _________________ Cheers, Robbie |

I figure I will give you a total history of my setup as it has been getting faster and faster over the past 3 months I have owned it.
I first upgraded my Router from RK1.002 right out of the box to RK1.006 with that firmware I was getting about 200-400 kbps down 60-80 kbps up with the original firmware on my s720 Card. This was in September until the middle of October in Milwaukee, WI.
About the end of October beginning of November Sprint released and updated firmware and connection manager for the s720 to roll out Rev A.
This update increased my speed in the KR-1 to about 300-500 kbps down and about 100kps up.
Then in about mid November Sprint Turned on Rev A in the Milwaukee Area. This resulted in the same 300-500 kbps down but in some cases up to 300 kbps up. There was also a big drop in latency down from about 270ms average down to about 135ms average.
Then the thing I had been waiting for since I purchased my KR-1 was released in the end of November. The new firmware for the KR-1 RK1.007
I flashed my router incorrectly and I ended up bricking it so hard that Kyrocera had to send me a replacement. Fortunately I got it the next day and was able to flash the new one from RK1.006 to RK1.007. As soon as I flashed it I got a great big boost in speed. I now was getting 900-1200 kbps down and 300-400 kbps up, this was great and although there was not specific support for the s720 the router now saw the s720 for what it is rather than a bunch of gobbly gook and the bandwidth issues hobbling it before appeared to be solved. The only problem with the RK1.007 was after about a day or so it would loose its connection and require a reboot. I downloaded over 10 gigs of information with the RK1.007 and the average speed was about 125KBps. The connection speed fluctuates a lot but rarely drops below 90KBps.
I just upgraded to RK1.008 last night. I saw no speed improvement over RK1.007 but the router seems to be more responsive in the firmware screens and the name is showing up properly on the status page. I am on the fringe of EVDO range up north of milwaukee and I am using a booster antenna to improve my signal or else my speed was stuck in the low 600s due to error from signal noise. With the antenna I am getting a much stronger and faster signal.
So in summary,
RK1.006 with s720 slow
Rk1.007 with s720 very fast but unstable
Rk1.008 with s720 very fast but I have not fully tested stability. |
