Not sure what the heck is going on this morning. But I'm now worse than dial-up speeds. Not sure if it's the router or what. Going to reset router and also try my laptop.
But this is the first time since I've owned the combo that its dropped this low. Only change was the 1007 firmware. |

There were some significant changes made to how KR1 handles cards and phones that are provisioned with Sprint service. I don't really want to go into a lot of details here (unless someone is really interested, given the fact that it took me three days of banging my head against a wall to figure out how to solve the problem in the first place) because the changes are completely transparent to the end user. Suffice it to say that I'm surprised, but elated, some of you are seeing these kinds of improvements with RK1007.
There were no specific driver tweaks and part of me wonders if most of you guys aren't suddenly seeing better network conditions for one reason or another. A great test is to see if you get the same performance while the card is in KR1 as you do while the card is in your laptop. Try the test at several different cell sites and at different times of the day. This can give you a better overall picture of performance in a given area.
With that in mind, RK1008 is in testing right now that provides full compatibility with the S720, thus making KR1 a Rev. A compatible device. We may see a release as early as next week but, of course, I promise nothing. |

Last night, as soon as I upgraded to 1007 my speed tripled on the down and up.
This morning, It's running horrible. Put it in my laptop, and it's getting fantastic performance. I always ran full bars of signal in the KR1, now it's less than half.
Going to revert back to the 1006 till 1008 comes out
What a bummer, not sure why the triple speed increase came and went
Sad day!

We'll file that under, "oops" and get it corrected. The file is located at http://www.kyocera-wireless.com/support/drivers/RK1006.bix |

Hello Scott,
I load the update to 1.006 to 1.007 ... Then I restored my saved settings ...
Is this wrong ... Please help me understand what restore system defaults I should do before restoring my saved settings ???
Please help ...
I am hoping this works So I do NOT have to reload the Old Firmware ...

Similar to what you do after a BIOS update on a computer, a typical step after a firmware update is to reset the KR1 to defaults, then manually make all the configuration adjustments needed and finally save them as a config file (as a backup, or which you could apply to other KR1s if you manage a "fleet").
Re-applying an old configuration file (for an older firmware version) invites conflict. At least this has been my experience with many different types of routers.
Resetting to defaults is also a standard troubleshooting step (again, because it resets the default configuration for the CURRENT firmware).
Mackieman... care to weigh in on the subject? Is this something you do when testing the KR1's beta firmwares? |

The attempt is always made to conserve option structure from one build to another. However, sometimes it is required that the structure change in order to meet the goals of a particular fix. Generally speaking, config.bin files should be able to be transferred between firmware builds but this should not be counted upon. As Scott noted, the one way to ensure that your KR1 performs correctly after a firmware upgrade is to reset to factory defaults and manually make changes to the configuration. Generally, you shouldn't have to update firmware that often so the hope is that this isn't too much of a burden.
Concerning testing, the feature itself is tested to ensure that it is functional but rolling between builds is not checked both for practicality and time savings. |

Hello All,
I tried the restore defaults and entered in info by hand and I am still getting
max 450 K down and 45 K up On version 1.006 I was getting 600-890 K down and much better up as well.
I tried my notebook My down is 900-1100 K and my up is 80-100 k
on speedtest.net
Help ... is this same problem going to happen with 1.008 ...
I have sprint rev 0 evdo and KR1 rev 1.007 and S620 Card ...

Rebooted Router when i was having troubles with the 1007 ::still running 1007::
I am still above average with 1007 than I was with 1006.
Just did a test I was:
Download Speed: 1196 kbps (149.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 123 kbps (15.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
But it's not as stable as it was with 1006. Seems to "drop off" about once an hour where it pauses and doesnt do anything for 30 seconds, and starts working again.
So, I get more overall speed with 1007 but it's less reliable than 1006 |

Hello simplypatrick,
I have to reboot it many time in order to re-enter the configuration data by hand ... I even unplugged it and started it up again ... Still slow
And yes ... it does just stop once in awhile ... I Noticed that ... strange ...
I noticed it seems to die which my email server is access the company email. The reason I noticed it is I have doubles of my emails all with the extract same time stamps ... this only happen when the internet connection is dropped while the email is be retrieved. I have over 200 emails and I really only have 100 (and 100 copies) and my email is retrieved once ever 10 minutes .. By the company email server ....
I still can NOT get My old speeds ... Maybe 1.008 with be better ... I hope.

Thank you to all the people at Booster-Antenna.com and Kyrocera that got me a new KR-1 in the next day (or would have been if that damn snowstorm hadn't messed up everything Friday) I got a visit from the Fedex fairy on saturday and was able to update the firmware from the 1.006 that came in the router to 1.007. So far I have seen a 3 fold increase in performance. I am north of milwaukee, but my Rev. A signal is only about -97db to -100db so pretty low, but I am still getting speeds up in the 600-800 kbps range down and about 300 kbps up. This is a fantastic improvement over my previous record of 479 down and 200 kbps up. I can't wait until RK1.008 so I can get full support for my s720 and My Booster Antenna that should be here tomorrow which should put me into full EVDO Rev. A Bliss. Thank you all for the fast turn around on the router and the great help that this form has been.

| RK1008 was released yesterday. It should be available fairly soon on the Kyocera website as well as D-Link's page. |

While we all patiently wait, I was wondering what the best method is for updating firmware? My firmware window states
"Remove your 1xEV-DO card, and disconnect any other USB phone cable, as applicable."
However, It will not load any pages without the card in it. Even when I use the "http://192.168.0.1" IP.
So I found I had to keep my S720 in the router while updating firmware... Bad? |
