PostPosted: Thu Nov 02, 2006 11:20 am    Post subject: What about Texas Instruments PCIxx20 Cardbus Controller Reply with quote

I have a Dell Inspiron 710M that the system is telling me has:
Texas Instruments PCIxx20 Cardbus Controller

Will this adapter work in my ntoebook?

This would be fantastic because I currently use the high end Kyocera EVDO card, but I want to buy a Mac Powerbook 17" that has an Expresscard/34 slot in it...

SO I will get the new Expresscard EVDO card with the PC card adapter for my Dell if it will work with the Texas Instruments PCIxx20 Cardbus Controller

Let me know guys. Thanks.

This ExpressCard Adapter Success/Failure thread currently has no specific data listed for the Dell Inspiron 710M, nor do we have any customer notes regarding compatibility or lack thereof.

We have experienced multiple failure reports for a similar model, the Dell 700M, even while that notebook is listed as supported. So far there have been numerous notebook models listed as 'supported' on the Verizon Card Adapter packaging yet they were NOT supported.

Note that there is report further back ^ of a Toshiba with Texas Instruments PCI-1410 Cardbus controller that also failed. So the "Ti or O2 Micro CardBus/Smart Cardbus" chip prerequisite may in fact NOT be a reasonable method for determining compatibility.

Until the adapter/V640 combo is tried in your particular Dell notebook, there is no way to know. Not sure if you want to take the financial/time/hassle risk.

Failure with a Dell Latitude D600. I even checked to make sure it had the correct SmartCardbus PCMCIA adapter before I bought the ExpressCard-to-PC Card converter.

In my case the LED light did not even go on. Very disappointing.

This is my 1st post so please forgive me! Embarassed May I ask where you buy these adapter cards please and has anybody done any compatibility testing with a Dell XPS M1710?

I know the Dell XPS M1710 has the Ricoh Chipset like all the other Dell Notebooks mentioned so far. Based on those results my bet is there is no "compatibility" or has anybody had any luck with them?

I bought this Dell 5700 ExpressCard to use in my M1710 and my 17" Powerbook G4 1.67 (DL) with the adapter and so far it appears it won't work in either! I wish I would've kept my service on the Kyocera KPC650.

If I may ask a seperate question please, what is the fair market value of a couple of month old KPC650? Would anyone have any idea and where is a good place to post it for sale? I didn't notice any for sale forums, are there any in EVDO Forums?

Thank you.

We don't have for sale forums up here. Your best bet is ebay.

Thanks Michael, I'll have to head over to post it on eBay. May I ask if you can possibly point me in the right direction of finding a PCMCIA Card to Express Card Adapter please.

I see that ther cost $29.99 but from where? I'd like to have that information for future use when - as mentioned in the replies thus far - adapters should be available in the future and that's it's best to hold off on buying right now.

Does Booster Antenna presently carry them? Again, I didn't notice any such adapter posted for purchase on their website when I quickly browsed earlier this evening. Can you please provide a link to the web page so that I can reference the site when I'm ready to purchase.

Thank You,

Verizon stores should be able to sell them.

We evaluated them and determined that they don't work, so decided not to sell them. I predicted that the ExpressCard Adapter will cause more returns than any other product.

There are better adapters coming soon, we will report on them when they are available (and if they work, we will also resell them).

We are getting in a "new version" of a ExpressCard Adapter. We have heard that this one has support for cardbus and cardbay. We will know more in a few days after we get in a "new one" for testing.

Our big tests will be testing the V640 + New ExpressCard Adapter in PowerBooks, KR1, LinkSys Router, Top Global Routers and various Windows laptops. We will report what we find to this thread.

The current ExpressCard Adapter has the following label.

We have been testing a NEW ExpressCard Adapter that actually works. This is NOT the version that Verizon sells, since that doesn't work. We are finishing up testing, but it does work in PowerBooks, KR1, MB6000, and of course Window laptops (we tested on a variety of Sony, Compaqs, etc.)

We should have it available for sale and bundled in the next few days.

Here is a little demo:

The new ExpressCard Adapter has additional circuitry that makes it slightly larger than the previous one. Also, it supports CardBus and CardBay.

Where can I buy the newest Express Card Adapter to work with my XPS M1710 please? I've been searching and searching and cannot find a thing reagarding any Express Card Adapter.

May I have any information on buying the "NEWEST" adapter.

I've looked all over this site and still cannot find a place to purchase an adapter to use with my 17" PowerBook G4 1.67 (DL) & the XPS M1710. Obviously, I'd need the adapter to work in the PowerBook since the Dell 5700 works flawlessly in the M1710.

Any help will be appreciated!

TYVM, Jim G.

Are any carriers releasing drivers, installation or application for Windows Mobile OS for these Express Card? I have Fijitsu notebook with Express card (same as compactPCI?) and a DELL PDA. I would love to get the DELL PDA connected to EVDO data and run skype on the go.

Thank you.

Just a quick note, this ExpressCard Adapter has been one of our biggest sellers. The demand is high and Novatel can't keep up.

Top Global's MB6000 can support new adaptor after firmware 1.1.25.
