| Michael reported that the S720 gets a little better signal than S620 in same location/laptop. I'm hoping to have my card soon to do performance comparisons on Rev0 network. It's possible the s720 performs better in the way the S620 often does better than Sierra. 720 has a newer chipset afterall. |

I will have my card in a cpl day's finally. After 15 call's I finally got someone that new what they were doing and even gave me the 75.00 off instantly instead of mail in rebate. Can't wait to see the difference from this and my aircard 580. _________________ Peace

So I guess those of us who bought an S620 and started a new account in May are stuck for a while?
I am in a major wireless area that's likely to see Rev A early. I'd like to upgrade.
What about the $59 rate? Can existing users get it? I'll call Sprint and see what they say.
The cheapest recent sale on eBay for an S620 was $50 but most were higher. Those prices will decline as the newer card works through the system.
Feel bad for the guy who paid $257 for a new S620 on August 22.[/url] |

Bought a s720 through this site. Got it in one day.
device was pre-activated which is different from instructions in install book.
results:
ping time: 110-120ms (good)
speed:~1.1 to 1.2mbps! that's awesome!
I can connect to my CAD program at my office and not have excessive latency issues.

That is very unusual.
Did you use the form on the contact us or just send a regular email? We encourage those making initial contact to use the web page, as spam filters will not grab it, after the initial contact, regular email is just fine.
BTW, there were a couple of questions days ago, that were very account specific and we replied that we needed your account info to get an answer, so check your email.
You can always send a private message up here, that will always be received too.
Resend your email up here as a private email and look for a response rather quickly (unless, your question is account specific, then send your Sprint Account number and we may not get an answer as quick) _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Hey Wally, thanks for being patient with the email and replying.
There was an error on our order form , that accidently removed the S720, it is back now. There were 700+ S720s available on Friday, and Sprint appears to be getting them in as they are selling. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I have a question for solidgoldsuleyman and anyone else who is in possession of an S720 PC Card:
Can you tell which system your card is using? Does the connection software tell you if you are using EVDO and is so, does it say if you are connected to Rev 0 or Rev A?
Is there anyway to tell which network you are connecting to?
My card is coming Tuesday, thanks to EVDOforums.com, so I may be able to answer my own question, but I am curious and I would like to know what to look for...... |

Good question, until we have some EVDO Rev A sightings, it may be impossible to know. Under Device Diagnostics, it reports that I am connected to 1xEVDO, maybe it reports something else or maybe the icon in Connection Manager changes.
I will ask my contacts at Sprint and report back. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Finally, the wireless world is starting to really get exciting, especially for those of with handtop type computers (I own a Sony UX 180P).
But I have a few questions for our resident techn-geniuses here. I'll probably go with Sprint like y'all are but...
1) Why is Sprint selling these Rev A card when they don't even have the Rev A network up and running anywhere yet? That suggests to me that Verizon is probably getting ready to TURN ON their Rev A network in some markets probably this upcoming week (like Tuesday or so).
2) However, it does seem that Sprint is much more customer-friendly than Verizon in the sense of supplying these cool "extra devices" for their network like this Kyocera KR1-like LinkSys router. Is it true that they are coming out with something like this and if so when and will it work on the new Rev A network that Sprint is going to roll out q42006?
3) Also, I know that Franklin Wireless is now selling usb modems that work on Sprint's regular EVDO network. But I assume that the chipset in the Franklin usb modems will not work on Sprint's new Rev A network. Is this correct? Has Franklin indicated whether they are going to upgrade their usb modems to work with the Rev A network if their current modems do not?
4) I've heard that Sprint is going to come up with its own usb modems that will work with the new Rev A network. Is this true?
5) And finally, has anyone heard whether Verizon and/or Cingular is going to come out with usb modems/routers that will work with their Rev A (Verizon) or HSDPA (Cingular) networks?
Thanks everybody for your help. I bet a lot of people are wondering about the answers to these questions too.

1) I'm only repeating rumors and going by speed tests by Sprint EVDO domains on dslreports.com but so far it looks like Kansas City, Las Vegas, and San Diego do have some EVDO Rev.A towers. Rev.A from Verizon this Tuesday would be a far stretch but I'm sure we all like surprises.
2)Yes, CTIA confirmed a Linksys router complete with Sprint's blessing.. I don't know if it will work with S720 card as Linksys router has not been released yet.
3) Franklin wireless modem are not Rev. A capable and will not have Rev. A speeds but may benefit when the Rev.A network is up as it may have slightly better performance with the faster network(Rev.A). I haven't read anything on Franklin planning a Rev. A network modem, but it should not be out of the realm of next year..
4)It's possible that Sprint may brand their own wireless modem (USB) but it would still be made by a manufacturer i.e. Sierra, Novatel, Franklin, Kyocera, UT Starcom, etc....
5)I'm sure they'll let Sprint be the guinea pig on this one and if they see a profitable market for it they will jump on the bandwagon... |

Verizon publicly announced several months ago that they would begin deploying Rev A in the *third* quarter 2006, a full quarter before Sprint.
That's why I think that the Sprint announcement of the Rev A card when they don't even really have a Rev A network up and running for the public in any announcement markets is strong evidence that Sprint knows that Verizon is going to be actually deploying Rev A in their first set of markets this month. And that's what my Verizon rep has been telling me since the spring, that Verizon was expected to launch Rev A in September. The Verizon public announcements have only served to back up what he told me. I don't put too much stock in what employees tell me usually.
Also, there is a Sprint-approved USB modem on the Rev A network that is going to be released q42006. It's made by Sierra Wireless. The 595U or something like that. It's up on evdoinfo.com
Verizon is so stupid if they release Rev A first without having usb modems and Kyocera KR1-like routers ready to go because, not only will I be switching over to Sprint because of these two devices, especially the usb Rev A modems, but I'll be CANCELLING at *least* one of my two data plans with Verizon (and possibly both) IMMEDIATELY waiting for Sprint to roll out.
Law of the Jungle, Verizon. |
