| Is there any new information available on when the Kyocera KR1 router might be available? Is there any reason why it wouldn't work with 1xRTT? |

The folks at Kyocera-Wireless have been in touch with us and they may be able to provide us an 'in' to Kyocera (like we have with Sierra Wireless). I will ask them when they expect the KR1 to be available and if it will work with 1xRTT (I would assume that it would). I will post the answer here, after I get a response.

Here is the word direct from our friends at Kyocera:
- it will be compatible with 1xRTT
- available = soon (that is all they could say)
- they are only supporting the KPC650 in the router (others may work, of course - after the router ships we can test it out). _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Are there any new rumors on when the Kyocera KR1 router might be available and also when Sprint might approve the KPC650?
Is the router likely to be available from anyone other than Verizon and Sprint?
I am looking for a solution that will accommodate both iBooks and PowerBooks running Mac OS X Tiger in an area that only has Sprint coverage. |

Yes, that would be a perfect solution for iBooks or PowerBook 12 inch.
I haven't heard any updates over the last few weeks.
I am not sure that the router will need to be available directly from Verizon or Sprint. I would assume, it would be an accessory that you could buy directly from Kyocera-Wireless. However, they did mention there were going to sell the router and KPC650 bundled together - which would mean that Verizon (and after Sprint approves) later on Sprint. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

| Actually, the answer may be No ! The KR1 is designed as an accessory of the KPC650. So it may only work with KPC650, at least in the begining. Currently you can not get KPC650 from Sprint. The KR1 is not an universal EVDO router like the ones from Top Global (www.topglobalusa.com). Both MB8000 and MB6000 can support all EVDO and CDMA 1xRTT cards from Sprint and Verizon plus EDGE and UMTS cards from Cingular/ATTW. |

Alan,
I noticed in your profile, you list the chinatopglobal web site as your WWW location. So, can I assume you work for the company that you keep recommending here on the forums? What is your position at the company? You seem to bad mouth the competition alot and always recommend a router that your company sells.
Hey Admin, is there any rules against this? |

Hi All, I was just wondering why Alan claims to be so enlightened when it comes to the KR1? Maybe he should stick to what he knows like his own Top Global products:). The KR1 is not an accessory to the KPC650 however they do work well together! yes I would know because I helped design and test both products. The KR1 should work with most EVDO cards regardless of carrier eg.Sprint ,Verizon. The KR1 is MAC OSX tiger compatible. Michael who manages this forum is very informed and will keep you posted as to release dates. The KR1 will be worth the wait. |

Shay,
Can you at least give us an estimated month when it will be released, perhaps a quarter? Is the estimated street price of $190 close?
I'm ready for this, as soon as it comes out I'm getting this, a KPC650, and dropping my TimeWarner Cable Modem.
Also, I heard the Junxion box loses about 50% of the speed of the EV-DO data rate. What are we to expect with the KR1?
Thanks. |

Shay isn't going to be able to say anything publicly here, I don't think Kyocera marketing and legal would be happy with that.
I had a very long conversation about the KR1 with Shay and I am very confident that many people will be happy with the features and the price of it. We are going to be getting one for review (2-4 weeks before it is available). It looks like we will be able to post pictures, specs, functionality and more (after we get a test unit).
There were some features that I haven't read about and will make this a killer product for:
- traveling work groups
- home users (cutting the DSL cord)
- integration with web cams (save a lot of $)
- PowerBook 12 inch / iBook / laptops WITHOUT a PCMCIA slot
Much of what the TopGlobal guy said to slam the KR1 is completely false. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Has any information been released on whether the Kyocera router will have the capability to configure new EVDO cards so that it won't be necessary to configure the card in a PC before installing it in the router?
Thanks |

Interesting question. I will try to find out.
If they do, they will sell a TON of these. That could be the missing link for PowerBook/iBook (Verizon & Sprint) users. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |
