You are correct
MAC filter works great.
I dont see much of a difference between the speeds through the Computer tower vs the KR1
I am connected between 400K-500K
downloading at 40K to 50K
Using web site testmy.net for checking speed
I thought once I got rid of the tower and used the KR1 my speed would increase dramatically. It still is great but not what I expected.
Do you think an AMP and antenna set up would help the speeds ?
My signal is good 2-3 bars on the Verizon manager |

The KR1 is not going to increase your EVDO speed, you only get so much on the card and it doesn't matter if the card is in a computer or KR1, the speed will be about the same.
The only time you can get slightly better performance is putting the KR1 in the best signal area (e.g. near a window) and then hooking up via WiFi. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Michael I purchased the external antenna for the KPC650 from Verizon when I got the card about 9 months ago.
As you know the KPC 650 has a little white and a little black antenna connection on the card.
The coax adapter Verizon sent me is a single coax hook up to the card. Which connector on the card should I hook up too the black or the white?
Or did they send me the wrong adapter..
Do you think I should invest in an AMP / Antenna set up. to get maximum signal and thus maximum speed. My TXANT is 87
Thanks for any reply |

Finally got a shell (required some special connection). Interesting. was able to start telnetd, but apparently it is firewalled so only works from the wireless or ethernet ports.
Basically a realtek 650 series running linux.
Diagnostic port appears to be a serial port although the connector is USB. |

This thread is getting HUGE.
If you need to post to this thread, first see if there is already a thread discussing your new topic in the KR1 area. If not, start a new one (vs. adding to this one). _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Yo tz1, let's take this to the KR1 Linux thread.
Really interested in pursuing the KR1's Linux environment. |

| To the KR1 linux thread - however maybe there should be a KR1 subforum... |

No 6700 support.
Actually, support for different devices requires a firmware update, and there hasn't been one since March 2006 (although one is suppose to be coming out soon). Not sure what is in the firmware until it is released. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

| I've got several sprint phones that will load in the router but they are not at all stable and need some work before they are added to the official support list. We're trying to eliminate the final bugs before we work on adding new stuff though. So yeah, it's on the to do list. |

I'm using the Kyocera KR-1 with a Kyocera KPC-650 on the Verizon network to provide mission-critical PC remote assistance and couldn't be happier with the results.
My client has several mobile processing trailers that have computer-controlled pumps and meters. The precise control of these pumps and meters is necessary, so an error in the industrial computer's software can cause all kinds of havoc and cost lots of money in a very short period of time.
Unfortunately, it's impractical for my client to hire me or the other computer experts he has to stay on scene to wait for an event; it's also expensive to have us come to him, wherever he might be, and he loses whatever time we spend in transit.
So my client asked me to find a remote assistance solution, and we came up with EVDO via the Kyocera KPC-650 and KR-1.
Basically, the measuring device interface talks to the industrial PC by Ethernet. The interface requires a static IP address for a number of reasons.
Configuring the KR-1 to work with the interface and PC was simple.
The interface is very similar to the one used by LinkSys and D-Link (which, of course, made it).
I was able to assign the router a new private network IP address and to disable DHCP; disabling the local wireless-G networking in the router was equally easily accomplished.
The router didn't cause any RF interference that was noticeable, which was a major concern of mine.
The system I am using involves working with Remote Assistance in Windows XP, so I had some concerns about port forwarding an VPN pass through, which had been noted as areas of concern in the KR-1 product description.
But I didn't need the firmware upgrade to get it to work properly. I was able to successfully connect to the industrial PC via Remote Assistance and use it accordingly.
Overall, I am very pleased with the KR-1. It's a surprisingly powerful router-switch-gateway, and you can do pretty much everything with it you would expect to be able to do with other commercial router/switches. |
