Glad to hear they're behind you Michael. You've been THE main source of worthwhile information regarding EVDO on the net (not to mention the KR1 specifically). You're efforts are greatly appreciated!

Just checking out the KR1 now...

I've uploaded some Treo snaps of the packaging and what's included inside the KR1 box on my flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/heimerwisen/sets/72057594058425488/

Mind you, these pics are from a crap VGA fixed-focus phone cam, so they're NOT stellar... and I must be over my coffee quotta for the day... can't--steady--hand--to--take--shot... uggh! Wink

Nice to see the cigarette-lighter DC cable was included! Just threw a voltmeter on it: 5.37 VDC. Now to get my other meter and check current draw...

The rebate of $50 is for purchasing KR1 AND the KPC650. I've had my V620 for a few months and hardly think that purchasing the KPC650 to get a $50 rebate is worth it.

I'm am very glad to hear that Michael soon will be selling the KR1's.

I've done some remote power testing with the KR1. The thread is here.
And there are some pics here.

The rebate is only if you have purchased a KPC650 (Verizon & Alltell are the ones that carry the KPC650), or if you purchase a new KPC650. The Novatel V620/S620, PC5740, PC5220, AirCard580 does not qualify for the Kyocera Mail-in Rebate.

If you purchased a KPC650 from us in the past, we can provide you a PDF receipt (if you lost or cannot find yours).

You should read the threads before you post. It has been noted several times that the current version of KR1 will not support GSM/W-CDMA based services. This is something that is in the planning stages for the next revision of the product.

I ordered mine on 1/31, so didn't know you would be getting them in. Had I known, I would have ordered here.

I also have the extra car adapter (why didn't they say they were including one - not even on the website), but I will probably put that to good use.

FYI, it uses the "O" adapter if you are going to Radio Shack.

It takes 800 mA @ 5V startup and goes up to at most 1.2A so far, so it doesn't really need 3A.

I was listening to internet radio while driving over the weekend (I usually have the KR1 in the laptop), and it worked well.

Except when I turned the ignition off since it takes almost a minute to completely boot. I have a 5V adapter with a set of backup NiMH batteries which I use for GPS and such, that will likely add a KR1 connector to the circuit since my car only has a switched lighter socket.

Just for clarification purposes, the website does note that a CPA is included; it's just in very small print.

Which has a 2.8mm center hole and red ring.

Size 'M', 2.1mm ID w/ blue ring and size 'N', 2.5mm ID w/white ring should work as well. Handy size matrix here (scroll down to RadioShack Adaptaplug Conversion Matrix).

Does anyone believe the 9V supplied by a NUON type Li-Ion battery pack or 12V supplied by a Firewire power-tap to be too out-of-spec for powering the KR1? Please post your thoughts here, thanks.

I took one of the car adapters apart (the casing prys apart pretty easily), removed the cigaret adapter metal peices, and solderd in wire leads. Its alittle tight inside, but i squeezed it shut and neatly wrapped it in electrical tape. This is hooked up to a toggle switch in my dash i had waiting for it. I bought one of those "cell phone pads" that kyocera was pushing on checkout. Its the perfect size for the feet of the KR1 to rest on and adds JUST enough grab to hold the router in place. Its resting right on top of the car PC. Best thing ever Smile I was talking over VoIP (ventrilo) to 5 people this morning on my ride to work. (all on the car computer) Next im going to setup some streaming radio stations and maybe work on a live googlemap gps system with driving webcam!
the possobilities!!!

Received the KR1 and works fine for web browsing, but my work VPN client does not connect through the router. Works directly with the KPC650 air card and through my D-Link DI-704 with factory defaults. Called tech support and they recommended returning it since the router cannot be configured to work with my VPN, possible MTU issue. The VPN client is from Cisco Version 4.7.00.0533. Anyone else encounter a problem with a VPN client?
