|
|
I give up- many hours of time spent with Verizon tech and Dell support- even returned for a new motherboard (determined not to be a problem).
My D420 has bluetooth- might be a conflict but doesnt show up anywhere in device mgr- just says 'unrecognized USB device connected'. Verizon mentioned they have seen issues with the Ricoh pcmcia controller that the 420 uses. very annoying! |

| The latitude line, is very picky, we have 4 of them, for some reason we have no problem with sprint, but with verizon, one worked right out of the gate, but the other 2 did not, and both had the motherboard replaced, and now they work. The first one with verizon now does not work and will have the mother board replaced, the one with sprint has been flawless. |

I had the same issue with a D420 (no bluetooth) and the 5740 card, but the same exact card works fine in a Dell D620, D610, and Thinkpad R32. I may get the internal WWAN card and hope that it works. I spent an hour on the phone with Dell and they are shipping me a new laptop, but I doubt it will help. |

Has anyone found a Verizon evdo card that works with the Dell D420 and the Ricoh Cardbus Controller?
Very frustrating... |

| I would suggest purchasing the internal card. I picked up a Dell 5700 from ebay for $175. Install took a couple of minutes and it works great. Others here have gotten good results. Of course all this hinges on you having Verizon since the card doesn't work with Sprint. |

| I'm going to check out a V620 card tomorrow or Thursday (and bring my laptop with me) I'll post my results, but I see that another person confirmed that it works! |

I have the same issue. I called Dell (gold support), they claim it is not a known issue. I opened a case # with their engineering group, but I will call Verizon and let them know not to send their customers to Dell for support (which they have been doing).
Dell told me I need to get a different card...oh and I could buy it from them (snicker). Yeah right. |

So dell made a laptop that doesn't work with cards that are currently in service, and it's verizon's fault for not traveling into the past and making their cards compatible with a laptop that wasn't made yet?
this is just like the inspiron 6000 thing. it won't be fixed until Dell gets enough complaints. |

I got a call back from Dell today. The new information is that it is a chipset conflict and not the Ricoh PCMCIA controller, that is causing the issue. Current resolution is to get a different card from carrier, or get internal EVDO. Near future resolution is that toward the end of November, they will have a new motherboard that addresses the chipset conflict. So don't order your D402's until after November if ya want the PC5740 to work properly.
If anyone wants to reference this...Dell incident number 145024353. |

I had the same issue with PC-5740 from Sprint w/ the D420. Upgraded to the Pantec PX-500 and installed without incident.
Dell should do better use cases for their mobile line. Asking why do you need pcmcia, just does not cut it. |
