I called up the Dell Activation people and asked about the Verizon EVDO service. First of all, are they Dell people or just a contractor working to activate EVDO cards? Since on their phone line, they have option of activating the Cingular Wireless Broadband service too.

But anyway, I asked about the speed of the Verizon Wireless. And the guy told me that upload speed is "dialup" and download speed is only about "80kbps." And he lamented that's the downside of anywhere broadband.

Is it true that the speed is so damn slow???? If yes, it's definitely not worth the money then!!!

NO, that is not true.

You get 50Kbps - 100Kbps upload speeds

You get 400Kbps - 700Kbs download speeds.

Do you think the guy you were speaking with on the phone, actually has ever used the service Sad

Are you sure that they didn't mean 80KB (kilobytes not kilobits?). 80 kilobytes would be 640 kilobits per second, which is on the upper-end of the EVDO throughput scale. I regularly get 80 KB (big "B" meaning bytes rather than bits) on my Sprint connection. But I can see a sales rep that doesn't really know about the technology making the mistake when quoting speeds from their fact sheet.
