no specific date yet. feels like maybe 1st week in February.
MBR1000 is likely to come out first. |

Alex, Ya wouldn't know if they sell the antenna cord for the Wilson to a UT Starcom UM150AL usb. I am going to need one when I can get some money for that and the Direct TV folks. Another question would be will that usb work in the KR2 or the Cradlepoint routers? |

here is the UM150 Antenna Adapter Cable
I suspect that all the cradlepoint routers will work with UM150 (have already heard from at least a couple of alltel customers finding success with CTR350).
I've really got no clue what devices Kyocera will officially support in the KR2 yet... that will be interesting to see. |

| I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but with the two USB slots, one express, and one PCMCIA, is there any chance that the KR2 or MBR1000 will support load balancing *or* load sharing? The main thing I care about in a new router is that I know that my router will switch over to the other card *instantly* (without dropping the overall connection for even a second) when one of them blips out for any reason. I know that one of the older and very expensive Cradlepoint routers can do this (though not with USB, just cards), but I'm hoping this new-gen router can do it too and with USBs to boot. Thanks. |

i've asked the same of our cradlepoint contacts, and have been told its certainly possible, but that demand will dictate when or whether it happens.
OK then. send your 'demand' to suggestions@cradlepoint.com |

| Done and done! Thanks for the suggestion. If they do it, they've got my business and the business of my company (we are heavy EvDO and EvDO router users). |

just fyi, because of our placement for all things evdo on google, many router makers have contacted us (mostly in broken english) saying their product is best, and demanding that we review/sell/support. their motivation is that they know our endorsement means people will find their stuff faster, via google.
our qualification process starts by asking what devices their router currently works with; what their process is for adding support for new devices as they come out; how they handle tech support and warranty replacements; how they handle support for vendors like 3gstore; and then we get to their router's features.
the one feature i've been demanding since i got here is load balancing and/or aggregation and thus far, while some have gotten close, nobody has delivered a product that delivers on all 'fronts'. there may have been a router or two that claimed to load balance, but the company failed to meet all our other criteria so it was a moot point.
going forward, we're only going to represent products that meet some pretty stringent goals.
if you want the best possible support from your next 3g router purchase, stick with the EVDO Experts at 3Gstore.com |

Alex,
Smart on your part, indeed. Pleased to hear that load balance/sharing has been on your list too. Keep up the solid work here - it is no wonder that the manufacturers look to you guys. |

Hi,
Thanks for your continued interest and questions regarding the KR2 router. Here's what I can tell you right now:
KR2 schedule is on track for Q1 and we are in the final production stages. We expect first shipments to the USA in late February, and should be available through distribution soon afterwards (early March).
We showed some pilot production units privately at CES in Las Vegas. They work well and are are looking very nice. Note they have a lighter gray top cover then some early photos showed.
We have spent a lot of effort electrically tuning the KR2 so that EVDO cards & modems will get clear reception with minimal signal cross-over interference when plugged into the unit. This means EVDO devices will be able to maintain a better, faster connection in fringe reception areas.
There are numerous other improvements in the administrative console and capabilities over KR1 which make the product easier to set up on VPN and manage in general. Too many too list here.
Regarding question above about "load balancing" (i.e. sharing the data traffic load across multiple devices plugged into the unit). No we will not support that. Although more than one EVDO device can be plugged into the KR2 simultaneously, only one will function at a time. Secondary devices are treated as back ups, that will only activate if there is a fail-over condition.
We will support a lot more EVDO devices than on KR1, the specific list will be posted on the Kyocera-Wireless website soon (see PC Mobility section).
I'll check back with further update in a few weeks.
Best Regards,
-Bill _________________ -Bill |

Bill thank you for the post. I would however like to comment in saying I won't buy a KR2 for several reasons. One being the fact you quit supporting the KR1 long before the KR2 came out. By support I mean you no longer supported any of the newer devices the carriers are using. I could understand this if the KR2 was already out which it is not. Why not continue to support your current market product and customers until the new device is out?
Number two I have never been treated so rudely by customer support when I called to ask if my device would be supported. when told no I explained my dismay and almost verbatum told I was SOL and the conversation ended. I bought your KR1 and it performed well. I think it's a nice router and the KR2 will most likely be even better, but I do not believe you provide the post sales support to your customers that they need. I had mine a month. just recently. Bought it brand new off the shelf. Due to unforeseen circumstances I was forced to switch carriers and my new device a Sprint U727 is not supported. I was forced to seek a different router that did and obviously it was not a Kyocera product. Now I have a 1 month old perfectly good KR1 router sitting here collecting dust. As for your tech support folks they need a lesson in manners. It's water under the bridge and wish you well with the KR2, but I will not be a customer. I also have my self to blame because had I done enough research I would have discovered the KR1 was lacking in device support and no longer being supported in this area would have bought something that did the first time around.
respectfully,
Tony

| Has anyone gotten the KR2 yet and fully tested it in production? I am looking for a solution to my KR1 and KPC680 dropping/losing connection all the time. I am waiting to hear back from an Alltel data engineer about whether or not Alltel purposely drops its internet every so often. It seems like if that happens, our KR1 can't get its connection back unless its power cycled. This is at my owner's second store and they are getting very frustrated with it. Any suggestions or tips? |
