I don't know if I posted this in the correct forum or not, please forgive if I errored!
Ok, can someone answer me this?
I have a Verizon card (PC5740VW) that I got to use with my laptop for work, paid for by my company. Works just fine in the laptop, I can activate the card to my heart's content. I have a PC that I take with me to various places also, and I bought a PCI to PCMCIA adapter. I installed the software just like on the laptop, inserted the card, detected just fine, etc. I can connect, everything where I live, but if I try to Activate the card in the PC, it always gives me a Failed to update blah blah. But I can still connect, etc. Then, I can put it back into the laptop, and activate, and it'll update just fine. When the PC and laptop are sitting 2 feet from each other!

Anyone have any ideas? I'd like to get it fixed, because some places the PC won't connect, and I believe it's because it's not been properly updated with coverage information.
Confused
Thanks!

How many bars are you getting when you plug it in your PCMCIA adapter on your PC?

Usually, to do an activation, you need 3-4 bars, otherwise the activation will fail. You can still connect when you are between 0 - 4 bars, but activation requires 3-4 bars. It may be that the RF noise from your PC (or the metal box of the PC), is causing less signal.

There are not many options for the PC5740, since it does not have an antenna port, however, we are currently evaluating a signal enhancing solution for the PC5740 (more later).

I tried again today with 4 bars showing, still did the same thing. Also, when I have the card in the PC, it shows I'm on the extended network. When I have it in the laptop (same location as the PC) it shows as being on the Verizon network. I'm clueless?

FYI, you cannot do an activation when you are on the Extended NationalAccess network, you can only do activations when you are on BroadbandAccess or NationalAccess. The Extended is probably a roaming agreement with AllTell, and data cards (and phones) that belong on the Verizon network, cannot do activation there (but they work fine).

Not sure, why one machine shows extended and another doesn't, you must be exactly on the border?

No, I live in a National Access area, and it extends for many miles in any direction (as I've noted during travels in the area with my laptop). I don't understand what the hangup is. I live like 4 miles away from a Verizon tower, have great signal out here, my wife's Verizon phone works like a champ, the aircard works like a champ in the laptop all over my house, and all over this area. I've tried copying all of the files in the verizon software on the laptop to the computer, didn't help. I was just wondering if there was a way to put the updated information from the laptop onto the pc? Would that get me anywhere, and does anyone know where it's stored, etc?
