This thread will be used to discuss the Toshiba Portege M400 with EVDO and specific issues related to this laptop and how it works with EVDO. Other forums can be used to discuss coverage, service, etc.

For someone that has this, I am most interested to know how well it receives signal compared to a PC Card, AND if there are any external ports for EVDO antennas or signal amplifiers (I am guessing there is not).

If you just got one of these laptops, we can quickly activate your Embedded Verizon EVDO card for you.

I just finally got around to switching my Verizon account from my KPC650 to the VDO embedded in my M400 (the off-the-rack model).

So far I've only tested it where I live, which even though just outside Boston has very fringe reception. (Our town doesn't want unsightly towers.) I rarely use the Kyocera card here; just when traveling.

The download speeds seemed to be roughly the same, about 120. Upload, oddly enough, was running about 80-90 on the Kyocera, but dropped to 25 on the internal card.

I'll try it again sometime when I'm on the road where there's reasonable reception.
