I'm glad it's working out for everyone. I know there was a lot of folks who were hard up for the 5740 fix and some of the other issues this build addresses but I hope now you guys understand the need to ensure that the quality was as good as could be. Anyway, thanks for the support.

Thanks for the upgrade. I'm pleased to report that my KR1 is now usable. It has not dropped the connection once since I installed the update on Thursday. (Previously it dropped connections dozens of times a day.)

One little anomaly: the signal strength on my unit usually shows nine bars, but occasionally is reports two or three. I've never seen anything in between.

Thanks again,

A.

I upgraded the firmware to 1006 without any issue. It seems to work well.

I tested to see if my WiFi would work and still see numerous WiFi Hardware Resets in the log.

I'll have to stick with my external D-Link Pocket Router to use WiFi for now Sad

I see on ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/Co-brand/KR-1/Firmware/ that there appears to be three fixes. OK, now for the dumb question, should I do each one or just the last one if I have not done any firmware updates?

You only need to program the most recent version.

Each are the complete image for the particular version - the original, the first set of fixes, and the current RK1006.

Help!!! I just downloaded the new firmware for the KR1 and followed the instructions to install it. During the install the screen went to the "This page can not be displayed" and now the router does not work and I can't access it. I called D-link support and after having them hang up on me three times after a 35 min wait, 22 min wait, and 5 min wait, they said to call back on Monday to have the router replaced.

I have tried unplugging, resetting, manually putting the IP address, all to no avail. There was nothing that interupted the install so I have no idea why this happened. I was directly connected to the router for the install. Any advice??? Or maybe this just ends up as a warning.

Note that the 'Signal Strength' is a composite reading of both RSSI and data throughput, so the variances you're seeing are normal.

From Mackieman's post earlier in this thread:

Mackieman wrote:
...There is a signal strength meter available in the GUI on the status page. It's a little thing we designed that measures initial RSSI and takes that value along with the number and reliability of packets passed over the WAN interface to calculate the value displayed...

Its more of a connection quality indicator than a signal strength indicator.

All of you may want to consider using connection manager software to see true signal monitoring when doing things like external antenna tuning. See this thread for more detail: http://www.evdoforums.com/about2878.html

Scott - thank for the advice. Everything works and I am now up and running. It is amazing how much more you all know then the manufacturers of the product.

I think the mistake I made was not waiting for the upgrade to run its course after the "This page cannot be displayed" screen came up. Nature instinct is too assume there is a problem. The same happened during the unbricking, but this time I let it run its course and everything worked good.

Thanks again.

Well, unfortunately it appears I spoke too soon. My KR1 is back to its old trick of frequently dropping the WAN signal.

I've just found the thread about KR1 warranty replacements. The bit about RF leakage between the WiFi and the WAN areas of the card caught my eye. I'll try disabling WiFi on the unit and, if that fixes it, I'll get an RMA for it.

Try either config, one at a time -entering WAN(EVDO) dial-up info and momentarily turning off Wi-Fi.

Note that the spontaneous reboots our tech was seeing were constant, over and over, very shortly after powering on his KR1. Not every now and then after having been connected for some length of time.

Forum members,

Please post KR1 RK1006 firmware update issues to the KR1 RK1006 Firmware Issues thread: http://www.evdoforums.com/about2905.html

Those who have successfully updated, please post to our SUCCESS thread:
http://www.evdoforums.com/about2915.html

-Thanks, Admin.
