|
|
My KPC650 is used in the KR1 as I have a MacBook Pro with the Express/34 slot. I haven't seen anything that shows how to update the PRL on the card.
I also still have the 858 area code and get two separate bills each month. I was looking into Verizon's EZMove process and (can't find the reference now, but) it seems that I'd have to update the KPC650's PRL following the change to a new number. (The area codes for my phone and the EVDO card have to be the same to go onto a single invoice.)
As I'd rather know what was going to happen before I try it, I'm hoping that someone can explain exactly what I ought to expect from this.
To summarize my situation and equipment:
MacBook Pro (Express/34 slot)
Kyocera KR1
Kyocera KPC650 with 858 area code (PCMCIA -- won't fit in MacBook Pro)
Verizon Broadband for EVDO card
Voice plan is 513 area code
Thanks,
-Rob |

Hi Rob,
Doing the EZ Move to combine billing on one statement would change the 'telephone number' on your EVDO card and require re-activation.
Re-activation requires that you have VZAccess Manager running on either a Powerbook G4 Mac with PC Card slot or a Windows-based notebook with PC Card slot. VZAccess Manager can only 'see' the EVDO card in the local device's PC Card slot, not a slot on a router over a network connection. |

KR1 will not perform the OTASP (Over The Air Service Programming) function that you need. Also, updating the PRL is just part of the OTASP process. You need to do the full OTASP to update the phone number and everything else in the card in addition to the PRL to work in your new location. If you don't have a laptop or something with a PCMCIA slot, you can take it to a Verizon store and they can perform the OTASP function for you.
We're still exploring how to make this work on KR1 but it requires a lot more functionality than KR1 has to offer so it's one of those wait and see things.
EDIT: Scott says that some Verizon stores may not perform that service for you. Your mileage may vary.

Well, since it works just fine, I suppose I'll just live with the multiple bills for a while.

Doesn't sound like there's any ETA for this ability either. <sigh/>
Thanks,
