A new tip was just posted on EVDOinfo.com:
Upgrading or Replacing your Verizon EVDO PC Cards or Phones
This steps you through changing EVDO Cards (replacing a defective, upgrading to the latest and greatest, etc.) You can do this online without calling Verizon.
Does this work? Yes, we just had a card get destroyed, bought a replacement (on ebay), and we switched our account over to this new card. We also can use this same technique for testing multiple cards with one Verizon account.

Does this mean if I have an i700 on one voice account, a Kyocera card on a separate data account, and a 3rd phone without an account, I can:
1) Swap the i700 ESN with the 3rd phone and use the 3rd phone with the i700's account, then
2) Swap the Kyocera card's ECN with the i700, and then use the i700 to get National Access service (but not, of course, EV-DO)?
3) Swap everything back in a day or two? |

You can only have one ESN tied to one account, so I am not sure how you go about doing the first switch. The directions provided are for swapping a new ESN into your existing account.
I would recommend calling Verizon to see how you can do what you ask:

I'll probably just try it, screw everything up, and THEN call
I have two numbers and two separate accounts (one for voice and one for data). In theory, I'd be swapping ESNs on one account, and then swapping ESNs on the second account. I'd need the third phone to avoid having the same ESN on two accounts...
I guess my underlying question is: is there any technical reason why an i700 couldn't use the National Access service provided for the Kyocera card?
(Backstory: if I can do this, I can still have a tiny online device to take with me on bike trips, without paying for data access on two accounts) |
