Yesterday I drove around the city from the west end (64 exit 180), through the city, and finally passing the airport East of the city.

I had a strong EVDO signal until I got to the airport (RIC). The eastern boundary seems to be between the airport and the 64/295 interchange near exit 200.

I wasn't able to connect. The diagnostics said "NOT Auth" "Pilot Only." I was able to lock EVDO and watch the sector info change.

Soon... really soon.

Digimania- I live in Hanover, Va. Can you tell me if you get EVDO coverage the next time you go from Richmond to Fredisburg, and you pass by Kings Dominion, where I live, and tell me if you get anything? I`d hate to spend all this money on a EVDO card and $80.00 monthly plan, only to get dial-up speeds. Any info you can give me, is greatly appreciated!

In case you didn't know, any authorized Verizon Store, Dealer or Agent (or sister site offers the cards if you need one, $20 overnight shipping charge) offers the same 15 day cancellation policy. It works like this. Get the EVDO card, try it out for 15 days. Drive around to all the places that you want to check coverage.

IF you are not happy, return the EVDO card in perfect condition (all packaging, etc.), and your 1 or 2 year contract will be cancelled and you will get a refund for whatever you paid. Verizon will bill you for the days that you had your card.

This morning I logged in from work (near the intersection of Nuckols Road and 295) and (surprise) have EVDO Very Happy . I have got a max recv rate of 540.3 kbs. Signal strength about 60%.

Richmond is now on the map...

http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/CoverageLocatorController?requesttype=newsearch

enter 23220 for the zipcode.

Ashland is close... I would say that Kings Dominion is covered.

Hi. My 5220 is not recognizing EVDO. I live in the center of Richmond, a few blocks east of the Boulevard. I'm using an Apple Powerbook, so I don't have access to the Connection Wizard and such. Is there a way to "reset" the card or something? Help much appreciated.

You guys who are reporting new EVDO locations rock! Verizon officially announced that Richmond gets EVDO today (6/21/2005), it was reported here almost 1 month ago (5/25/2005)!

Quote:
Continuing to build on its strategy to provide its customers superior wireless services in the United States, Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation’s most reliable wireless network, today announced the rollout of two award-winning services in the Richmond metropolitan area, one developed for the consumer market, the other primarily for business customers. V CAST – the nation’s first wireless broadband multimedia service for consumers – and BroadbandAccess, the fastest wide-area wireless Internet access service available in the nation, are both available beginning today in Richmond. Both services run on the company’s high-speed EV-DO (Evolution Data-Optimized) wireless broadband network, which is available in major markets from coast to coast.

You may not have an updated PRL, which would cause your PC data card not to see new EVDO towers, you may need to update your PRL.

From TimesDispatch.com:
Quote:
Areas for the new services include Richmond, Colonial Heights and Petersburg and major parts of Chesterfield and Henrico counties. Tiny sections of eastern Powhatan and Goochland counties and southern Hanover County also are included in the network.

In Richmond, EVDO is available at the Americamps Richmond North campground, however it's a little weak and often "slips" into National Access. When it's good it's real good, though.

Just announced recently. Richmond VA and San Antonio TX have gone live.

A little late I know but I figured you guys would want some kind of inside verification.
