HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!! Very Happy

I'm so glad this came out... It even gave me a warning that I had altered my driver to allow the KPC650 to work and that I needed to change it back first.

The first thing it did was update my PRL... Gives you all the lovely stats including signal status and NationalAccess vs BroadbandAccess.

I wish it had the little titlebar icons like the Sierra - but at this point, I'm not complaining!! Works great!

I have a Verizon Wireless Card, have paid my bill, and have entered the proper phone number assigned to the card, yet I cannot download the Verizon Software for the KPC650.

I will be calling Verizon again tomorrow to find out why I am unable to download the software.

(1) I just got off the phone with Verizon, they gave me a different number to punch in, and it in fact allowed me to download the software properly. Incidently, yes, I was using vzw.smithmicro.com/download before I first wrote my original email concerning the instant subject matter.

(2) The software moaned and groaned about the 5220 driver having been "modified", and thus I would like to reinstall the VZAccess Software after reversing the mods, just to be sure it thinks all is good.

Any ideas on what the original file dates were for the files that were modified via the instructions given on the evdoinfo.com website, so we can be "totally reversed" on that stuff?

(3) I do seem to be getting in okay, but the real test will be if the software MacOS no longer crashes every 3 or 4 days (as it has recently). I believe this maybe that I did some sort of update to the 5220 drivers at some point, and someone told me I actually may have ended up making the 5220 drivers older than what came with the OS, if this is true (which I do hope not), then I am not sure how to reload the drivers from the MacOS CD absent a total reinstall (DONT WANT THAT).

We have been modifying the XML file, but there must be binary drivers as well somewhere within MacOS, and I would love to know those filenames, and to know what the dates and checksums are as well, so I can reverse not only the XML modifications, but be sure I have the proper binaries installed as well.

Thanks,

Stuart

Anyone know when they might release a Mac version for the V620? It sucks not being able to use the new EVDO coverage in Minneapolis. Sad

For anyone that has previously modified the 5220 plist files to get them to recognize the KPC650, you need to revert the 2 values (idProduct, idVendor) and then issue the 2 sudo commands and reboot your computer, that will get it, so the VZAccess for Mac for KPC650 will work just fine. You need to reverse the changes in this document:

PowerBook Mac OS X Directions To Use Kyocera KPC650

So in the 2 files, change:

idProduct back to 274
idVendor back to 3901

and then run:

Code:
sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache
sudo kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

and restart.

This will revert your files back to the state they were previously and allow you to use the new software.

A few good questions:

(a) What were the original date/time stamps for these files prior to modification?

(b) There are binary drivers (somewhere?) which I believe I may have overwritten at somepoint with older 5220 drivers (I am not sure when or how), but how can I verify or not verify this?

(c) If this has occured to me (and perhaps I loaded 5220 drivers from 10.3.x) and I wish to restore the olde ones, anyone has any ideas?

(d) If my 5220 drivers are totally jacked over, and I have installed the new VZAccess software, is this even relavent?

(e) When VZAccess Manager complains about the "modified drivers" is it making that determination based on the XML files being different, or based on some other method of inspection within the MacOS environment?

Thanks in advance.

It's about time!!! While I would've liked a menu icon like the 5220, I'll take whatever I can get! Now, some of you developer types get going and find a way to break that proprietary communication channel over which the diag-type info is available! Twisted Evil

I plan on sending in a feature request for getting signal strength either in the menu bar or in the dock... either way would work for me. Also, the minimal view similar to what Windows has (basically the toolbar and the status bars only) would be nice too...
