Starting today, the Treo 650 is available from Verizon. This phone is already available from Sprint. As reported, this is NOT an 1xEVDO phone, but rather an 1xRTT. This is a bit discouraging, as an EVDO phone would have been much more popular. I would bet that an EVDO Treo is not too far off.

I would love to hear from those that have the Treo 650 to hear how you like it. I know that some Verizon business customers have received them over the last few weeks (because they got the Treo 650 Booster Antenna).

The 650 is an awesome device....despite being 1X. It's however a bit on the big side, as far as using it for a phone. But the same can be said for a Blackberry.

Web Browsing runs MUCH better on this device, as compared with some other devices of it's type. The keypad is a bit cramped if you have big fingers, but on the overall is pretty ergo.

supposedly it's firmware upgradeable to evdo coverage.. most are being set up with evdo plans (no actual price difference from 1x), but no word on when that upgrade is available.

Nota bene: if you buy a treo 650 and it starts rebooting itself, IT IS NOT BROKEN!!!!! It's a nasty bug that pops up if you sync it to the same profile as another palm device.

Can you elaborate on this? Do you know which chipset is in the 650?

unfortunately, I'm not the right person to ask about the nuts and bolts of the device's internals. What I'm saying here is heresay, I don't know for certain.

i've heard that treo 650 user accounts have the provisioning code for evdo. What this means I am not certain, but it gives me hope.

Well, I'm going crazy trying to figure out which chipset is in the Treo 650...so if anyone can shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated.
