San Francisco Baby!!
100% EVDO using internal antenna.
Great service in the Moscone Convention centers and all over downtown.

My counterpart reports EVDO is available in downtown Detroit also. Details forthcoming.

San Fran doesn't have Ev-do yet! This includes Northern California as well. From the VP of marketing at VZW, so yes you could say that this is reliable info. It's not going to arrive anywhere in Northern California till late August. You may have stumbled across some cell techs testing the site(s)...

What do you mean 50%?

Are you on EVDO then it flips to 1X half the time, or are you connected at half the speed of 400-700kb/s? for example at say 200-300kb/s..

Sorry so unclear. I was driving. I meant 50% of the signal strength graph on the VZ Access application.

Quote:
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 27, 2005--Building on its successful strategy to provide customers superior wireless services in the United States, Verizon Wireless Regional President Rich Garwood today announced the launch of two award-winning services at three major airports serving the San Francisco Bay area, one developed primarily for business customers, the other for the consumer market. BroadbandAccess, the fastest wide-area wireless Internet access service available in the nation, and V CAST, the nation's first wireless broadband multimedia service for consumers, are both available today for use by travelers at San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland international airports. Both services run on the company's high-speed EV-DO (Evolution Data-Optimized) wireless broadband network, the nation's largest and fastest wide-area wireless broadband network.

"The initial launch of our high-speed wireless broadband network in the Bay Area provides Verizon Wireless customers with the latest and greatest in mobile wireless technology," said Garwood. "BroadbandAccess provides mobile workers full access to their corporate information, just as if they were attached via a high-speed wired connection, but with the freedom of true mobility, and with V CAST, consumers can access the latest in multimedia programming to stay connected, informed and entertained via their wireless phones. Launch of both services in the greater Bay Area is on the horizon."

Thanks to Scott for giving readers of EVDOforums.com a 6 week advance notice by reporting this earlier

Thanks for the reply but you'll notice it's just the airports that are getting this service right now. When I speak of evdo, I mean the full blown area wide launch. My reply still stands till the end of August for the full launch.

I was driving around on 880 today and found some spotty EVDO coverage between 238 and Emeryville. I ran activation again at SFO last week so that might have made a difference.

Looks like EVDO is starting in the whole San Francisco area and it should be live next week.

Welcome SFO!
