I have a KPC650 card and recently added a T700p both with VZW. What I am finding is that since the VZAccess Manager Software has the respective drivers for each device "embedded" as part of the install process, if I want to use the T700p for tethering I have to install its version of VZAccess Manager and de-install the version for the KPC650 card or vice versa if I want to use the KPC650 card. The reason for this is the VZAccess Manager software, regardless of device, installs into the same directory and seems to replace the previous device's driver.
Is there a way to just install the KPC650 driver without installing the VZAccess Manager software? |

Are you using Mac OS X or Windows?
I'm seeing this as well, on both Windows and Mac versions of Verizon Access Manager. Always have to re-detect hardware.
On Macs it sort of makes sense since the PPP dialing setup polls the device's "telephone" number and sets it as part of the PPP username along with the usual 'vzw' password and #777 dialing string.
Windows setups appear to omit the u & pw and just have the #777, so it seems odd that they can't talk to any supported device.
If the changes weren't global (system-level) than perhaps a different user account could be set up (still a hassle).
Ideally VZ Access Manger would detect any of the supported VZW devices and move between them. |

| I am using Windows. As I've taken a look at the Windows set-up, access to VZW's network by either device is structured to key off of the phone number assigned to each device. Why they can't structure the software, as you suggested, to allow separate profiles is beyond me. |

Where do you see the ph# used in the Windows setup? |

| The phone number is displayed as you go through the wizard set-up at the end of the set-up process. For example, I have not yet added the option on my VZW account to allow unlimited tethering. When I installed the software, filled in the 700p number, finished the install and then tried to connect, I received an error message that basically indicated VZW's system did not find a match between my number and their database. As such, the software would not let me connect. Basically, this must be how VZW is preventing people from "legally" tethering: you must sign-up for what they call "BroadbandAccess Connect Unlimited", option is activated in their billing system for your phone number, phone number is entered into VZAccess Manager, phone number has to match for connection to occur. |

That is exactly right.
We were playing with some Verizon phones and couldn't get tethering to work, after adding the correct option to our voice plan, then tethering worked fine. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Ok. So there must be a configuration file somewhere that gets written with the data or the VZAccess Manager app/driver polls the card everytime it dials to make sure the number matches the card's (phone's).
What I meant is that I don't see that number showing up in the dial-up location created by VZAccess Manager (like I do on the Mac version).
All very interesting... |

When you tether a phone using VZAccess (even on a Mac), during the first time installation (or when you "Run Setup Assistant"), it will ask you for your devices phone number during the setup. This only happens if you are using a phone. I am betting that this number is used during the "authentication" process to make sure you have purchased the correct tethering option. If you don't, your connection doesn't authenticate and it doesn't work. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I know what i would try
I would download a drivers backup program
like 'drivers magician'
i would run it and backup my drivers
then i would install the other device
I would run the program again
this time i would only backup the NEW drivers for the other device
then I would go to the location of the backups
find the first device folder ( it will be named ) ( no problem )
right click on the info file and choose install
now the drivers for both devices are installed
next I would goto connections and manually create connections for each of the 2 devices and not even use the vzw manager
I have connection icon for 3 phones and 2 icons/connections for my vx8100 so i can connect via 1xrtt or evdo
i got the phone on wensday
my other phones are a vx3200 and vx4500 |
