in the remote power thread there is a lot of speculation and theory.
What i want to know is people that have actually tried different portable power solutions and which ones work and which ones dont. |

i ran down to my local radio shack and picked up a 9v universal dvd battery.
the kicker is everybody says different things about voltage regulation, but i'm going to assume that the car charger that came with the kr1 has a voltage regulator in it, so also at radio shack i picked up one of their universal tips that would fit the out connector, the wires and connector that go along with it and a female lighter plug, then i attatched the wires to the lighter socket and plugged the kr1 into that.
works very well, everything worked perfect for me. |

The auto adapter that comes with the KR1 regulates to the required 5V needed by the KR1. Use it with 9V on up to 14V+. Using a 9V NUON Li-Ion 'DVD Battery Pack' connected to the auto adapter that is included with the KR1, I get run times easily over 8 hours. Heavier transmitting (sending large files) will generally shorten run times. |

I bought a black version of that one from the UK for use with a Sony PSP; I can get 10 hours of use. If the device you are using uses the same power of a PSP then with two you should get a full days use out of it.
The place I bought it from was marketing it originally as an external iPod battery.
I would consider getting their 44Wh (Watt-Hour) version. |

You would need to buy or build an adapter cable with cigarette lighter socket to 4mm X 1.5mm barrel plug. That would allow you to use the auto adapter that comes with the KR1. |

We have tried all of the portable power solution in these threads.
The smallest, cheapest and best is the PM85-22 or PM85-44 from http://bixnet.com/baacpoad.html
We have arranged for a 10% discount for people that read this thread.
Just enter the code 'kr1router' during check out for your discount. You will receive a revised invoice by email.
You will have to configure the pack for +5V and select the proper tip.
We recommend the PM85-44. The kr1 requires ~5V@1A = 5W, so it will operate for 44Wh/5W ~ 8 hours. It also has a 12V@2A = 24W charger so you can charge during operation. The PM85-22 will operate for 4 hours but the charger is only 12V@0.5A= 6W. You can charge during operation but it will take a very long time.
