What is it about various EVDO cards that causes the problems with various hardware? Is it the vendors implimentation of the protocol or what? We have KYOCERA KPC650's and notice that they do not function properly in some hardware, yet work flawlessly in other hardware. Especially when it comes to VPN.

On notebooks it appears to relate to whether the client software allows use of the EVDO device (either a hardware or software environment issue/limit). Sometimes lack of NDIS support creates issues (where the VPN client cannot use a 'modem' but can use a network adapter).

Once it is determined that a platform and software environment works, many organizations are loath to move to another, for good reason.

As for EVDO routers, like the KR1 and TopGlobal MB6000/MB8000, it relates more to NAT or NAPT/PAT limitations which break VPN pass-through (egress).

You might want to ask your provider in Canada if there are known driver limitations with their supplied Passport software (or possibly contact Kyocera to ask about limitations).
