I've been working phase 4 of the EVDO expansion in SoCal. EVDO service now available in Hesperia, Victorville, Apple Valley, and Adelanto.

Additional sites also in Coachella, Palm Desert, Indio, Desert Hot Springs, Banning, Beumont.

This is all part of a 200+ EVDO site addition to improve EVDO service in Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas markets.

Expect a formal announcement in 3-4 weeks.

For the EVDO network in SoCal including San Diego and Vegas, vzw is utilizing 3 T1's. One for controll of the bts, and two for the data only module (DOM).

The DOM currently uses two T1's, with the capability to increase to eight.
There has been some discusion of utilizing fractional T1's to save money.
I don't expect it to get much traction, since EVDO use will grow exponentially as the price drops.

Still unplugged................posted from home via broadband.....long week and they are working us 6 days a week to get phase 4 done. Shocked

Hi,

I was wondering if you knew if the expanded socal coverage coming will include the city of San Bernardino? When I connect now I do get a brief EVDO signal, but that quickly fades and it connects at 1-RXTT. Thanks.

Yes, lots of sites coming to SBDO. Can you give me a nearby intersection? I could let you know the nearest site.

Is the southern California Phase 4 installs completed?

I am trying to guess when the BIG announcement from Verizon will be. I am betting on June 1, 2005.

Apparently there are more than 50 sites to go with about 20 that have long term delays. Expect the annoucement to go with whatever sites have been completed to this point. Early June would be a good guess.

Right behind the EVDO rollout is the expansion of the CDMA 800mhz to add carriers for capacity. The newest Nortel cbts equipment will be used in SoCal to add 6th and 7th carrier with capability to go to 9 carriers.

No problem. Two nearby sites that should give you great coverage are near Waterman and 5th, and Arrowhead between Rialto Ave and Mills St.

Hey unplugged,

I also wanted to say thanks for participating in the forums. Now, if only other installers all over the country would do the same Smile
