|

Guys,
I have a brand new 15" Powerbook G4 with Tiger installed and I just recently received a PC 5220 Verizon Wireless card to use with it. I'm a total beginner to this. The speeds I'm getting are anemic -- average download is 52 kbps and upload is 71 kbps. Since I'm in Los Angeles, I figure that this is unusual. I also can't seem to send e-mail when I'm using the card -- I get a message saying "can't use the selected server."
I was wondering if anyone else has had these problems and what can be done to rectify it. Is there a driver for Tiger that makes the card work better? A friend of mine told me I need to have the card configured in a PC, but I'm not exactly sure what that means.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Chris,
Welcome to the forums.
Tiger has built-in support for PC 5220, there is nothing for you to install. In the menu bar you will see either a 1xRTT or EVDO icon (in the screenshot below, EVDO is not enabled - so I am in a 3 bar 1xRTT area, and speeds will be comparable to what you are getting). Also, DO NOT install the Apple Verizon Drivers on top of Tiger, they are meant for 10.3x NOT 10.4. IF you do install them, your PC5220 will stop working and you will need to re-install Tiger to get things working again.
You need to make sure that you are in a EVDO area vs. 1xRTT area. Also, you might want to check your zip code to make sure you are in a broadbandaccess area (broadbandaccess = EVDO = 1xEVDO = EV-DO).
If you are a 'signal challenged' area, the following will help:
- Booster Antenna
- Signal Amplifier, we are over due on reviews of a few of them - they do work
- Both
Finally, there is a ton of information on http://www.EVDOforums.com and http://www.EVDOinfo.com, so be sure to search both, the answer to your next question is probably already there! _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Can you tell me if the drivers are included for Sprint as well or only Verizon? Is there a way to use Sprint's 580 with a 15" PowerBook running Tiger?
Thank you,
Jim |

JP, Mike, or Mario,
how did you get the Sprint AC580 working on 10.4.1?
I have a powerbook and would like to get things going, too.
Thank you,
RHLohse |
