|
|
The Motorola Q will be available soon.
This thread will discuss if the Motorola Q can be tethered as a modem to the Mac (PowerBook, MacBook, iBook, etc.)
If anyone gets one of these devices, there is a simple test that you can do and report to this thread.
Plug in the Motorola Q via USB to your Mac.
Open System Preferences, then select Network
Does a message popup on the screen about a new device/port being recognized?
If it does, it may be easy to tether the device as an EVDO modem to your laptop. If no message appears, drivers will be needed to get this to work (not good). _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Looks like the 700P will not work or at least not be as effecient as I would like for teathering to a MAC. I am in no rush to get the wrong PDA for myself as an avid MAC user and fan.
I am waiting it out to decide between the MACBOOKPRO 15" with a broadband card OR the MACBOOK 13.3 and teather it to a phone that is fully compatible, USB and or Bluetooth. Either way I teather, I want to be able to recieve the full benefit of the speed along with ease of use. Will the Q be the one, or is there a 700P MAC version on the Verizion, I mean horizion? |

FYI, most devices that support tethering will support tethering via BlueTooth. However, BlueTooth 1.2 (which most phones support), will limit your speed by 50% (or more) compared to using it via USB. This is due to the limitation of BlueTooth 1.2. If your phone supports BlueTooth 2.0 and your computer does too, these isn't a problem. Most phones do not yet support BlueTooth 2.0.
This is the reason for these different USB Mac Tether threads. Most people will not want to use EVDO it there is a performance hit of 50 - 70%, they will want full speed. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Michael,
I already have a Q. I have a MacBook Pro with OSX and Windows dual bootable.
I have tested the new PDANet version 1.65. It works GREAT with the Q WHEN I BOOT INTO WINDOWS. It's FAST too.
Also, while connecting via the USB cable, the Q charges when I boot into Windows, but it DOES NOT charge when I boot into Mac OSX.
I have tried to get it working with my mac for DUN over bluetooth or USB, but so far I have not had any luck.
UPDATE: In Mac OSX, I can connect to the Q to send it files and retrieve files from the Q. When I launch iSync, it tells me this device is not compatible.
The MarkSpace product is supposed to support Mac, but I have not tried it yet. _________________ Motorola Q News - http://www.qusers.com |

I haven't been able to find too much out about whether or not DUN is supported with the Verizon version of the Q. I want to use it with a Mac PB. Does anyone know if there is a working configuration of this?
Thanks |
