and the Kyocera router played a nice role in the hurricane boot camp we had the week for our news staffers assigned to cover hurricanes this year. EV-DO and the new BGAN satellite service are a major part of our plans to send stuff back to the paper.

I did not have EVDO during Hurricane Wilma so I don't know whether or not the towers stood after it passed. Wilma was as strong as Katrina and knocked down trees and telephone poles but did not have the flooding in South Florida that contributed to much of the destruction in New Orleans.

The eye of Wilma passed directly over my house. We were without electricity for almost three weeks so plan on some form of battery power and electrical generation. Solar Power would be nice.

Would you have any data on the availability of EVDO in such an area or are you relying on the towers in areas not directly in the path of the hurricane?
