| Just went live in Bellingham this morning! I was watching some standup comedy on my phone while waiting at Discount Tire. |

Surprise of surprises! I'm posting this from Pier 69 on Seattle's waterfront and getting a solid EVDO (469/76 down/up) connection.

And now there's EVDO along I-405 from at least 160th in Bothell down to Sea-Tac Airport. A full signal all the way (using the Booster Antenna). It looks like we're almost "good to go"!
More later (I'm now posting this from Mercer St. near the Seattle Center; 518 down/83 up).

| Yups - just 5 days left - so they may have started turning on more of the sites. Did you get any chance to check on the Eastside as yet - anywhere from Renton to Lynnwood (any of Renton, Bellevue, Kirkland, Sammamish, Edmonds, Lynnwood)? |

I-405 is the main North-South freeway along the Eastside. The strong signal along 405 in Bellevue leads me to believe the away-from-freeway access should be pretty good there. I drove straight down 405 from NE 160th St. (Zipcode 98011) all the way to Sea-Tac and never dropped a bar. If you know where Fry's Electronics is (Renton), that was solid as well (at least along 405). I'll post more as I get around the area.

I can confirm good coverage in the Kirkland - Bellevue areas.
I know of two more cell sites on the Eastside that Verizon is hurriedly converting to new gear, so I would think they're trying to solidify the new coverage at this point.
Anyone tried east I90 yet? Might try to head out there later today and see how far coverage makes it. |

I'm now sitting near Redmond Town Center (actually outside of the Red Robin) and I'm looking at a full EVDO signal (is it 4 bars or 5 if you count the antenna "bar"?). 456 down/78 up using just the 5220's built-in antenna.
Also, I was in Bothell (228th near the 405 overpass) and was getting a solid EVDO signal as well. I then drove over to and up Hwy 9 using the booster antenna (I really like that thing) and got usable EVDO signals all the way into Snohomish and out to 88th St. SE and 131st Ave SE (a few times I pulled off the booster and couldn't get a signal and with it got a barebones EVDO connection).
I think we're as good to go as we can be and whatever we have now can only get better.
'tis time for a burger...

Thanks to our Seattle EVDO friends who reported Seattle EVDO coverage over 4 weeks ago, guess what, it is official as of today. Verizon officially announces Seattle EVDO Coverage:
| Quote: | | Continuing to build on its strategy to provide its customers superior wireless services in the United States, Verizon Wireless today announced the rollout of two award-winning services in greater Seattle – one developed for the consumer market, the other primarily for business customers. V CAST, the nation’s first 3G wireless broadband multimedia service for consumers, and BroadbandAccess, the fastest wide-area wireless Internet access service available in the nation, are both available today from Bellingham to Olympia. Both services run on the company’s high-speed EV-DO (Evolution Data-Optimized) wireless broadband network, which is available from coast to coast. |

I would say, that our Seattle EVDO friends are the current leaders for announcing to the world they have coverage before it is official. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I'm especially interested in seeing reports from users locating service in the "outlying" areas.

Special thanks to Mr. Michael for his well timed scoops and mr.ralphs and others for their hard work in going around Seattle and giving us news about where it was working at different stages. And of course very happy day for us here in Seattle that it is finally here.
Is there any place where we can see the "official" EVDO Coverage map for Seattle? |

Well, telcos are generally a hundred years of tradition unhampered by progress. In Verizon's case, it might take a while for the marketing folks to get up to speed (yes, there is a pun in there). But let's not tell too many folks. I think we're still sharing the cellular user's bandwidth and if too many new folks start using it, the speeds will drop. I did get somewhere around 700 down once, but not since.

EVDO rocks!!! I just started using it now and it looks like there arent too many folks aroun using it because I am seeing 1248/114. My location is Lynnwood [Zip Code 98037] - less than a half mile from both I-5 and Highway 405. Amazingly I am not seeing 5 bars - only 4.
I will be testing my card in various locations for next two weeks just to see where its working - but it sure is working great where Ill be using it most [Highway 405 between Lynnwood and Bellevue].
I am using the Kyocera card. My only grouse is that this card cannot be used like I used to use the T Mobile Sierra card where I havent taken it out of my computer for months together because it doesnt jut out - so there is no danger of its getting "hurt" - with this Kyocera card - it protrudes out so I will have to remove it anytime I put my laptop in a bag. |

Just what I was looking for... I've been trying to figure out what I needed to make things run smoother at work.. Has anyone checked for coverage in Portland? I've goota check out coverage down here. How long until Wimax?
Time for searching!! Maybe I can be the first on the Portland section!! Come over and welcome Portland to the Wireless age!! Now I can drive and work at the same time!! Yeh!!! I just found a way to work every split second of the day. Now if they only came up with a PDA/Desk Top - - the most powerfull wired desktop PC in the world -- In the palm of your hand (no pun intended). that you could just hang around your neck from the shower to work to bed.
Good Luck Seattle |
