I've been trying this using Windows 2000 and I'm having a problem. I am testing this on a Thinkpad 600 with a 802.11B WLAN card and a Verizon 5220. My intent is to set up a 'backup' gateway for my home LAN so it won't be used very much, just when I really need id.
In 2000 configuring ICS there is no otion given for the connection which is to be shared. If I accept ICS it resets the local IP address to 192.168.0.1 and the PC loses contact with the rest of the WLAN (I'm using 192.168.15.0 and my existing router is 192.168.15.1)
Has anyone accomplished this with 2000? I read another item about ICS that said that you actually need TWO LAN cards in addition to the 5220 for this to work. any info on this?
My WLAN is configured at 182.168.15.0 with a netmansk of 255.255.0.0 so even if ICS forces the WLAN card to address 192.168.0.1 it would still fit in the address space. EXCEPT for the fact that when ICS forces the WLAN address to 192.168.0.1 if forces the netmask to 255.255.255.0 so it disappears from the address space.
Does anyone know if there is a way to have ICS use an address OTHER THAN 192.168.0.1? Or failing that allow a netmask of 255.255.0.0?
